I read about this contest on another forum, and was happy to attend. This was their first attempt at a big CC and while it did sort of drag out a bit, the Prophets made a great effort to fill people in on what was going on and where we were in the progress of things. There was some good-natured teasing and a bit of peer critique, but all-in-all things were very civil.

Until the winners were announced. Then, lo and behold, a new group formed- the "didn't make the cut haters." Cries of "you copied your costume from the forums" and "the judges have sh***y taste", or "all the winners are decked out in mutant pack items", etc. So disappointing. My home server is Infinity, but Bill lives on all of them. This was the longest I'd spent on Freedom in a while, and really I was ashamed for those people. A CC is judged by individuals with their own taste, which might not be yours. If I want to hand 5 billion to people who think like me, well that's too bad if you don't like it. Bill managed to place in the top 11, but missed the final 5 cut (full disclosure). And his outfit is very Silver Age inspired, sort of Flash meets Captain America. Very different from the other winners. Did I cry and moan? No, and if I hadn't gotten one single inf I wouldn't have either. I spent an hour in Pocket D in a game I enjoy, people watching. If you didn't want to and weren't happy with the result, well, I'm sorry that you can't just be gracious for those who did win.

I'm stunned, because in 7 years of playing this game, I've never seen a group go from content to complain-y to flat out rudely hostile over something so trivial. I'll still play on Freedom, but wow...poor showing from a lot of the contestants.

I'd also like to mention that the Prophets themselves were very good-natured about the hostility and responded civilly and with dignity, which is 90% of the reason I joined them immediately after the CC. At least I found one group on Freedom that I know I can get along with.
