How is Electric Blast for corruptors?
My Kin/Elec defender cannot budge the pylon even after copying to test and respeccing in VS. I tried a bunch of different combinations of attack/debuff mixes. Of course that may say more about defenders and/or Kinetics than Electric blast in this type of test.
Maybe a Kin/Sonic defender could take down a Pylon? It would be interesting to compare an Elec/Traps to a Fire or Sonic /Traps. |
Part of Kin's issue is it cuts into it's own DPS by using buffs/debuffs and Transfusion for the -regen. My vote might go for Kin/ice though depending on the build since /ice has three ST attacks that animate fast.

That said, yeah /Kin does cut into your own DPS by all the stuff you have to spam. Then again, Transfusion is only a paltry -50% regen. Better than nothing, but really not a lot compared to most -regen powers.

Without using any FS or Siphon, VS would deal 52 damage for its entire duration. If I stacked a bunch of FS and Siphon and then cast VS I could get its damage up to 64 and then I would watch as the buffs wore off me, but the VS kept kicking out 64 damage for its entire duration. My own Charged Bolts damage would start off at 69 and then kick up to 128 (IIRC). I'll have to check more into the buff thing. |
Yeah, I don't think Kinetic is a good choice for /Elec, especially at taking down pylon. I am thinking either Radiation or Trap is much better since the debuffs benefit VS's damage.
What's left is to normalize all Assassin Strikes and improve Stalker's old sets (Claw, MA and EM)! You don't need to bring back the missing PbAoE attack. You just need to make the existing ones better! For example, make Slice a WIDER and LONGER cone.
On the topic of pylons and DPS, is there a rough range of how much DPS Corruptors are able to achieve? Is this possible to ascertain with the randomness of scourge? Must a secondary with -RES be factored in?

You'll need enough defense to survive long against Pylon's damage. Pylon can kill you in two hits.
And you'll need enough endurance to fight for long minutes.
Basically, you may need a specific build to kill pylon and Acrobatic is good because one knockback protection +4 is not good enough. My Bane has one knockback piece and it hurts dps a lot when I get knocked back.
I don't know the dps number when all of VS's damage is included but it should be high.

The base damage is 44.5 damage per pulse, once every 3.5 seconds, for 60 seconds. That's 17 shots. That works out to ~12.7 DPS, base. Modify that by the enhancement slotting and other sundry damage buffs at cast-time and you're there.
The big advantage of VS is that it's got a HUGE damage per activation and damage per endurance, assuming the fight lasts long enough to use all 17 shots. The problem is that it so rarely does. I guess the real math is to figure out what the break-even point is for VS. How many shots does it need to get in to be as good as just firing your tier 1 blast instead. I'd say somewhere between 4 and 5, based on endurance cost and activation time. Anything after that is pure profit. If only you had the luxury of fighting long, single target spankfests in City of Heroes, instead of lots of minion packs.
If you're the type of person who can go to sleep at night knowing that you left 0.04dps on the table, then you could probably go Elec. If all that matters is taking down that pylon a fraction of a second sooner than your peers, then Elec is probably not the best choice for you.
Electrical Blast isn't terrible, it just isn't the best. Many players tend to see something as useless if it's even a hair behind the best and Elec is something like a hair and a half, so you'd expect it to heal enemies at that point. Elec still causes good damage, but it is behind a set like Fire that has nothing but damage. Why? The designers overvalued the impact of endurance drain, but not so much that it'll matter.
Paired with Kinetics, you can make a pretty good sapper (Short Circuit + Transference). Toss in Mu Mastery for Power Sink and you've got a spawn-to-spawn sapper. Mu Mastery will also give you a third single-target attack that also happens to be a mag3 hold (stackable with Tesla Cage). Sap the spawn, hold the boss, Fulcrum Shift, then blast away to your heart's content.
