A small book had been found among the shelves of the library. It was left there by the Griffon Prince, Artaxes. Inside the letters were penned in exquisite calligraphy and the words were written in the style of a child's fairy tale. The book reads as follows...

The Aegean War
Once upon a time, long before the age of man, there was a large and powerful nation. It was called The Primarch Empire. It's enlightened reign spread out from a great city, nestled among the waves of the ocean. Within this empire, many creatures lived and thrived. Creatures of magic and of legend. On the gilded throne of the empire sat a wise and majestic figure. The Dragon Emperor, Zok Redflame. For millennia, the city stood as a beacon of harmony and of destiny.
However, it was not to last.
One fateful night, all the seers fell into a deep trance. All gathered about, knowing that a great prophecy was soon to be revealed. All night and into the morning they awaited the waking of the seers. As one they awoke. As one they spoke.
"Shaken. Shattered. All we know. The lowly ones. They thrive and grow. Their power's equal you shall never find. Destiny lies with humankind."
As the words of the seers echo through the great halls of the palace, all in audience fall silent. The great emperor dismissed them all, calling to him his wisest advisors.
"The prophecy is ominous!" Some said. "A portent of impending doom!"
"The prophecy is glorious!" Said the others. "A herald of an enlightened age!"
"We must destroy the humans!" Cried some.
"We must guide the humans!" Cried the others.
Time passed and the discussion became an argument. The argument became a battle. The battle became a war.
The dragon emperor, always suspicious of the young human race, agreed that mankind must be destroyed. Vowing to stop him, the royal houses opposed to the emperor's decision left the great ocean city. Emboldened by the leadership of a house of Griffons, they formed together a new empire, calling themselves The Aegeans.
Thus, the great civil war began.
The battles raged on and the Aegeans fought their former brethren. It was however, a lost cause. The Primarch armies were vast, as were their resources. In the face of defeat, a plan was devised by a brilliant Phoenix. Setting the stage, the Primarch armies were lured to what they believed their final victory. The battle began and the Aegeans seemed lost. To save humanity, the Phoenixes used their great power of death and rebirth. The armies fell, their spirits stripped away from their bodies. It was a stalemate. Even the great Emperor Zok himself could not escape the fate he had stepped into. The souls of the many magical creatures slipped into the ether. Their lifeless bodies pulsed with the magic of the Phoenix ritual, becoming nothing more than small gem-like totems. Not all were lost, but both of the great empires were no more. Without the magic of it's people, the shimmering city sank beneath the waves of the ocean, never to be seen again. The great halls of the Primarch palace would be home to the creatures of the deep.
Humanity survived. Humanity thrived. Thousands of years have passed. Yet within the ether, the seers fell into trance once more. The fulfillment of the prophecy at hand. Bound to their totems, the magical spirits strive to return to the earthen realm. Their ancient goals remain, the prophecy driving them forward. Primarch and Aegean, two sides of a frozen war. A war that has begun to thaw. The voice of the great dragon emperor is heard, his rallying cry to resume the battle.
Only one thing is certain.
For better or for worse.
Destiny lies with humankind.
