Pair it with a damage aura secondary so that the aura benefits from Follow Up.
I'm not sure about this, but IIRC ST damage is better on scrappers and AoE on Brutes. Brutes also have an added benefit of a taunt aura no matter which secondary you pick so you won't be getting many runners which is extremely irritating otherwise.
So if you're going with a damage aura you have 3 sets to choose from: DA, FA and ElA. DA is arguably the toughest while FA has the greatest damage potential but is the squishiest. ElA is somewhere in the middle.
If you're looking for max survivability, however, I'd recommend Inv or WP. SR is nice but in the high-end IO game I'm afraid it loses to other sets.
On the cheap, Claws/sr. If you are willing to invest in it, Claws/dark. I do believe that Spin for brutes is better than it is on scrappers, and it's really rather good on scrappers.

I’ve had less playing time recently, but even so I’ve been addicted to change (altitis)
I’ve been leveling a SS/inv brute, but I just don’t care for the animation…. Too boring. Foot-stomp is a great power, but I just can’t get into the concept.
So, with all the talks of claws I thought I would give it a try. However, my question is claws/??
First, is claws better on brutes or scrappers? The follow-up question is which secondary has the best synergy?
I’m really looking for another main, so if I like claws then I’m talking about a level 50 with purples or whatever.
I have a feeling claws is going to be one of those either works type answers.

I should add, I'm not looking to take powers such a epic fire, elect or whatever. Claws will be the damage dealer.
