I am a new player, less than a week in, still in Praetoria working through the story.

Started a Corruptor, DP/Dm and I am struggling abit. I am up to lvl 16.

I get missions when I have difficulty set at default that has me facing single reds that take me down in 2-3 shots or I get overwhelmed by white/yellow melees so I have reduced level to -1 just to get by.

I have a few invented enhancements and a few of the enhancements that come after training but buying what i can afford. I have pistols and dual weild 1 acc 3 dmg each, bullet rain and oh the other aoe cone fire both with 2 acc each. I have the slow, as well as the to hit debuff from the DM tree, and the heal. I tossed in leadership and maneuvers as well.

Any advice for slotting? How about the inherent skills, such as health and stamina? (I have a lvl 15 invention heal in health and working on a end mod for sta)

Is there something I am missing or can it just be a bit tough at the lower levels?

Thanks

"buying what i can afford". Hint: Run around and open presents. Take the Candy Canes and sell them at the Trading House for 100,000 Inf each. Your money problems will disappear.

For Health & Stamina, you'll probably want 2 slots total in each of them, with Healing & Endurance Modification, respectively.

For attacks, 1 each Accuracy & Endurance Reduction and, as you add slots, 2-3 Damage and a Recharge.

With melee foes being a problem, you might want to pick up Hover at the next opportunity - outside of caves and office & tech map corridors, it's generally 100% protection against melee foes.

I'd go with the default slot in Health and 3 in Stamina. Especially on a character with a self heal. I'd also grab Howling Twilight if you haven't; it isn't just a resurrection power, it's a strong debuff and effective stun power.

For the OP: There's a limit to how far you can enhance a single aspect of a power, called the Enhancement Diversification (ED) cap. It amounts to three Single Origin enhancements worth. So the normal slotting for Stamina would be three Enhancement Modifications.

Not sure why you're having such difficulties. While it can be difficult at times, /Dark is one of the safest sets out there.

I don't know what you know and don't know, so apologies up front if I tell you things you already know.

From lv12 you can change all your enhancements to DO's (Dual Origins), which are roughly double the power of the training ones you get in Nova. So, apart from any IO's you've made, I'd get all of them replaced as a priority. You can do the same at lv22, when you can get SO's (Single Origins), when you move to primal earth.

Slot all attacks with 1 acc 1 end and then damage to suit, normally I add 2-3 dmg 0-1 rchg.

Slot 2-3 endurance modifications in Stamina.

Slot 2-3 endurance reductions in Darkest Night.

Slot 2 recharge in Tar Patch.

Slot 2 acc in Twilight Grasp.

Once you have Darkest Night on anything, you pretty much shouldn't be getting killed, as it will neuter them. Especially when you lay Tar Patch, as that will slow them and up your damage too. Then just run round lots and shoot and run away if need be. I usually cast DN on the back/middle one of the mob, then cast Tar Patch between me and the mob to prevent them getting to me, then change target to make sure I'm not killing the one with DN on, then open fire on them.

Your biggest issue will be endurance, which I learnt painfully, so if you take care of that you should be ok.

Hover is good as mentioned, or Combat Jumping as this allows great maneuverability and protects from immobilization. But either works. As I recall, most of Praetoria has pretty high ceilings so Hover should work very well there.

When you can, take Shadowfall. It gives a small def bonus, but also a nice resistance to energy based damage which you will come across a fair bit. Mostly it's handy for stealthing through zones and around missions. Some missions that would otherwise be a drag, you can ghost to the end of the mission and just take out the boss or complete the objective. Which, when going through a tough patch, can give you a small sense of progression.

Superspeed is the other consideration for a travel power. It stacks with Shadowfall to give invis level stealth which is very nice. You'd want hasten anyway, so it's a reasonable choice to go for. If you go with SS, then take Combat Jumping for some vertical movement.

At lv20 it will all change dramatically when you get the oh so awesome Fearsome Stare. So make sure you grab this at 20. It is a game changing power.

You mentioned single reds. I'm wondering if by this you are referring to the EB's (Elite Bosses) you find in some of the Praetorian arcs. The success of these is very much dependant on what set you play. My elec/therm struggled terribly against them. My Ice/Dark did very well and had them neutered so much she could take them out in her own time. My Fire/Rad owned them completely.

Open all presents you see, as mentioned. Sell the canes for inf, but more importantly, you will occassionally find some "Build Snow Beast" temporary powers which you could use when you face the tough EB's as it will give the boss something to focus on as you cut it to pieces.

If you're having trouble solo, get teamed up. /Dark really shines on a team and the xp boost will get you to 20 in no time and then the fun can really start.

Thanks for the replies...

Farmed some candy canes tonight, which gave me enough inf to have the deposit to sell a rather rare recipe I had so sittin fine with 20+ mil now. Also loaded up on the lvl 20 invention enhancements. Did the Crow story tonight and that one makes it tough to judge how i am doing relatively, due to the fact that every mission I had an npc assisting, which is great with the DM secondary.
Until basically yesterday I hadn't been moving around much in combat mainly due to the sticky way it plays with the character freezing to take a shot etc, but now I have hover it certainly helps to keep mobile.

Thanks for the helps

Which server are you playing on? Always helps to find a steady group to play with -- definitely more enjoyable that way.

Praetoria is harder then starting out blueside or redside, so don't be too discouraged.

I wouldn't worry to much about it, then. You'll be either redside or blueside soon (I prefer blueside because of the larger population), and you'll find more folks to team with.
