Hi, i just got to lvl 24 today and wondered how to build my Crab.
(Even though i play a VEAT, i never played past lvl 23 before so i dont know much about the Game really.)
So i read through a lot of Posts here but since most Builds are for lvl 50s, they arent very helpfull on how to choose / Slot as a low level.

Thats why i would like to post my actual lvl 24 Build now and would like to hear if i am on the right way or what i can improve.

Atm my Goal was some defense, have Hasten on without too much downtime and no Endurance Problem.

Thanks

That's very similar to my build up to that level. Personally I'd take Venom Grenade at 12 rather than 14, but I don't suppose 2 levels makes much difference (or any at all, if you don't exemp).

One thing that jumps out at me is one of your level 1 powers is empty. Obviously it won't be empty in game, but if this were my build: I'd move Crab Armor Upgrade to that power slot, then Longfang back to the level 2 power, then Combat Training: Defensive in the level 4 spot. The only other options for that level 1 slot is Slice, which is ok but nothing special (and a lot of people prefer to avoid melee on their Crab), and Wolf Spider Armor, which I'd avoid as it does almost nothing for a Crab.

Other than that:

Hasten - in the long run you probably won't want 4 slots in this as 3 SOs will get you to the ED softcap (that 4th slot won't contribute much). With IOs you could even get away with 2 at level 50, depending how badly you want to perma hasten. In any case, Crab builds tend to be quite slot intensive, so later on you'll likely find you want to respec a slot or two out of there.

Crab Spider Armor Upgrade - those resist enhancers don't really provide much as the resists in this power are miniscule. That said you probably will want those two slots in the long term, to slot the -kb Steadfast IO and the 3% defense Steadfast IO.

In the immediate future I'd look to get a couple more defense enhancers in Tactical Training Maneuvers, and maybe a bit more enhancement in Venom Grenade (either recharge to get that debuff out more often, or damage since it's a decent damage power in its own right).

You could also look into frankenslotting cheap IO sets into your powers to get a little more mileage out of them, but that's a whole guide in itself (I forget who wrote it).

Thanks mate, that was very helpful

The Performance Shifter endurance proc is a fantastic IO for a new toon where endurance is always a problem.

Your build doesn't have any IOs at all, and you're probably about to tell me you can't afford anything fancy. However, since you're level 20+ you're getting tips. If you run those tip mishes + alignment mishes it only takes 1 villain merit to buy the PerfShifter proc, it's a bargain. Of course you're getting XP and drops while running the tip mishes too.

My strategy in the level 24 respec is to basically take the same powers as before, only switching out the gun for the backpack powers. Since you really basically already know how to play that selection of powers, there isn't that much of a learning curve. Longfang switches out for Burst, Suppression for Heavy Burst and so on. Then you can begin picking up and experimenting with any new options (like Aim and Arm Lash) as you go along.

Don't forget, though, that you can still use the gun with Crab attacks, and in fact you'll need to use the gun if you want to keep Wide Area Web Grenade. So you might experiment with dual builds that way, stick with what you know on the main build, and then stick some of those experimental powers you haven't tried yet in the other one. (I notice you don't have WAWG, so I don't know if you dropped it, or had never bothered to pick it up)

You most definately want Fortification as your last selection for the respec, and MOST definately switch out your Wolf armor for the Crab armor as Biowraith said. You need one or the other, but not necessarily both (not until you get to higher level) and the Crab version is better than the Wolf version. So that should really be the first step of your respec, to switch out that armor that you had to take for its upgrade.

Also as Biowraith said, you will get more good out of each slot if you put it in TT:Manuevers for the Def instead of Crab Spider Armor for the Res. Although once you get to 25 you'll want to put some slots in Fortification, too.

The honest truth is, I don't really start slotting defense until the 30s, or at least past 27 or so. You get a lot more mileage by being able to kill foes before they can do any damage to you. Just make sure you have enough End enhancement to keep your toggles up and work on slotting the Primary for a while. Although, a few slots dropped into a good power like TT:M or Fortification can boost your survivability in melee pretty dramatically if you want to go for a tanking role.

I kinda messed up my respec / 2nd Build (dont ask how..hehe), anyways...i would need a respec trial now or buy a respec to do changes.

So once i get a Respecc, i will see that i dont slot Hasten so much....i am not sure why i havent picked up WAWG....i was prolly focused on the Crab Powers so much, that i didnt pay Attention

And i will check out right now the PerfShifter Proc. I have 29 Merits atm since i didnt know what to spend them on before.
Oh yeah, the lvls i put slots in Powers and such might not be accurate....just wanted to show my Build in general

Edit: I went to the Merit Vendor and the PerfShifter Recipes cost between 50-150 Merits
