I have a pretty solid inv/ss build now: ( S/L 58%, E/N 44% F/C 37% psi 18%) went with the end mod alpha to help my blue bar woes.

I've used that temp on any number of characters as an "oh crap" button; it gives you a 30 second time out to recover from whatever's killing you. It's also dirt cheap to buy at Wentworths.

Got me thinking,

with the lv 54 content out now, and assuming it will only get harder maybe it is time to look into getting back into unstoppable and the tactic above seems rather doable as I doubt any TF would need more than 5 uses, and if needed I could drop a crafting table and get another 5 in an emergency.

So before I go and spend the time and inf on a second build I am asking the forum if it would be worthwhile adventure, or a fools errand.

Are you asking whether or not you should add Unstoppable to your build? Or change your build to chain Unstoppable-Ethereal Shift-Unstoppable?

If it's the former(take the power), just think about the game as it is now. Does it present challenges you think you need Unstoppable to deal with? The only current challenge I can think of is Hydra in the Apex TF.

If it's the latter(chain), keep in mind you will need to be very close to the recharge cap on Unstoppable in order to chain Unstoppable and Ethereal Shift(probably doable with spiritual core alpha).

As for the strategy, it might have issues. You're basically giving up any aggression for 30 seconds, which might be enough time for squishies to take the aggro in your place, depending on the situation.

I'm assuming that the numbers you gave were for defense? If so you've quite a bit of room on S/L to swap sets around; anything over 45% defense is of very limited use to you... swapping out the extraneous S/L set bonuses to get something else useful, like more regen, more recharge, HP or endurance in place of the extra S/L defense would give you a stronger overall build. Obviously I have no idea what your build looks like now but you may want to look over your slotting and see if dropping 13% of S/L bonuses would let you include more valuable bonuses in their place. Um, this does presuppose that you're basing your numbers on only one foe in Invincibility.

I did pick up Unstoppable in my last respec for the inherent fitness; more as a "carry an umbrella and it won't rain" thing than anything else and as something that would be perfectly functional with only the base slot. So far I've used it once, on the Apex TF dealing with the toxic damage from the Hydra tentacles. Since there's no defense for toxic and your resistance to it is minimal... AND those Hydra put out really massive amounts of it I did find Unstoppable useful for that specific situation. We cleared out the pylons in less than the 3 minute Unstop duration so the crash wasn't a factor.

I tend to think that Unstoppable is a useful emergency button power that since it needs no slots may make sense to pick up with the freed power selections of issue 19. I don't think it's by any stretch a "must have" power but now that builds have more room for extras it may be worth having for the very rare time when you may want it. The Ethereal Shift temp though is a fantastic "oh crap" button on any character and I have it on every one of my upper level characters. My Blasters do seem to get the most use out of it though...

I am not sure how much wiggle room I have as 45% isn't the soft cap to +4 AVs I believe it is closer to 52% add on top of that most AVs have some sort of +to hit ... well you see where I am going.

I have been playing with the numbers and I think I can eek out anther 2 or 3 % Energy.

but that's outside the scope of this thread. I am asking if respecing back into unstoppable is worth it currently or will be in the near future; and I am starting to think that it will be.

I wish it it was easier to test builds out on test server and/or mids covered alpha slot bonuses.

45% is the soft cap to game mechanics, AVs or no AVs. What that means is that 52% gets you no benefit whatsoever that 45% does not against opponents regardless of level up to +5.

Now some AVs may well have powers that add to-hit (like Build-Up) and for those more defense is useful...but those powers generally far exceed anything 52 or 58% would help you with.

Now I do like to have a cushion against defense debuffs myself, since Inv has good but not perfect defense debuff resistance, but I find a 5% cushion adequate (thus 50% defense). If you want to keep your defense high as a cushion against debuffs, that's fine, but it's a mistake to think higher-level enemies have a "different" soft cap.
