getting back to my 40 ice/ss

Since I've had issues finding tanks for various TFs, I've opted to go back and work on my own lately. My first project is my currently 40 ice/ss - I took him for his first spin on the ITF last night. And, while I wasn't totally bummed, I was a little annoyed to be one of the only deaths on the TF because one of the kheld mobs in mish #2 got 2 lucky hits in on me.

My current (bargain) build is softcapped to S/L/N/E with 1 application of EA, and at about 18% f/c & 11% psi. I do not have tough (but I'm going to respec into it) - but I don't think that would have helped much with the kheld mobs. Is the answer here just taunt+hibernate?

One thing I was pleased by is that I did not notice any cascading defense failures as I frequently do on my defcapped /shield brute (who generally does a good job of tanking the ITF).

Anyway, what's the current state of ice/ tankers? Was my underwhelming experience par for the course with ice tankers? It kind of seems like it would be for a set with high defense and no resist to the relevant damage types. How do we fare on the Tin Mage & Apex tfs?

You can consider a build with high recharge such that hoarfrost can be up most of the time. It will enable you to take more hits.

Before either of my Ice/ tankers were soft-capped to S/L without a full 10 proc of EA, most of ITF was a case of Hibernation.

While having S/L without EA, and E/N with a full EA, the whole TF has become a breeze.

Hoarfrost like Twilight Snow said is also important, with accolades and a few HP bonuses, having Hoarfrost up puts most Ice tankers to the HP cap, while this is post-50 gameplay, it's a good point of how useful Hoarfrost is, Ice Tankers do not much if any resistance to anything but cold and slows really, but what Ice/ does offer is the considerable ease of soft-capping S/L/N/E and a strong enough HP buff to stay at the old or new HP cap most of the time.

Your main defences for Ice/ will be soft-capped defences to S/L, and enough HP to take almost anything, even tower-buffed LR takes 3 attacks (albeit all executed within a second, due to using his ranged attack in melee range) to down a HP-capped tanker.

Thanks guys.

Here's my current build, looks like I was wrong about my defense #s, it's 3 to softcap S/L & 5 for E/N (probably part of my problem):

Very casual build. Next time I respec him I'll pull out Permafrost (put Winter's Gift: Slow Resist in SS), Stealth & CJ (probably grab it again at 49) and replace with boxing/tough weave, which should cap me to S/L/E/N with 1 EA.

Of course, this is only at level 40 with minimal $$ invested. If that works out OK I'll carry him on to 50 and invest in some more serious ios & perma HF.

I'm definitely torn between defense and recharge slotting so far.
