Advice for a Stone/EM

hey guys, just recently made my first stone tank, ive played plenty of tanks before, but like some advice on this guy, just to make sure im headed in the right direction. any hints or tips? ive got tp already btw, anything anyone can think of, just lemme know, thanks

Is that Stone/Energy or Stone/Electric?

Clarification would be good, because advice will differ slightly for each.

I do have a Stone/energy at 50... with that said the combination really isn't all that great anymore; if the character's still really low I'd change to another secondary. Years ago /EM was a good set but in the shape it's in now it's one of the worst available to tankers.

On the Stone portion in my opinion the must haves are Rock Armor, Earth's Embrace, Rooted, Mud Pots, Stone Skin and Granite. Minerals is optional and Crystal and Brimstone are skippable in my opinion. About half the time on my Stone tankers I don't run Granite, just Rock/Rooted/Stone Skin is enough for a small team unless you run into something nasty.

Pool powers you'll want would include Hasten, Teleport (It's the only way you can move effectively in combat without turning off your mez protection) and possibly Hover to make TP easier to use for zone travel.

On the EM side you can pick and choose some, the biggest drawbacks are the extremely long animations on the heavy hitters and the highly single target focus of the set. I find my Stone/EM constantly "corpse blasting" on teams; I click on Energy Transfer and spend 3 seconds staring at my glowing fists while the team kills my target, then ET fires off on the already dead enemy and starts it's lengthy recharge. I target another mob and click Total Focus and the same thing happens again. Unless you're fighting a really tough mob like an EB or AV it gets frustrating since you'll waste so many attacks.

I'm not saying you won't like the combination, just that with the changes a few years ago I don't like the combination anymore. I have two level 50 stone tankers, one Stone/EM and one Stone/Fire. There's literally no comparison in the utility of the two. Naturally both are almost unkillable by almost anything in the game, that's a given in a decently built Stone tank even on pure SO enhancements. The /Fire is vastly superior in aggro management thanks to two large AOEs and deals more damage... it's attacks all animate quickly as well. The /EM, well, it has glowing pom-poms on it's hands.

If you're ok with the drawbacks of /EM in slow animations and poor AOE damage then you may enjoy the character; back when I rolled and leveled mine it did have poor AOE but it had fast animating attacks. Alas, it's not that way anymore.

In reading over this I guess I'm maybe overstating things somewhat, but that's still the only 50 I have that I've had no desire at all to play in the last few years.

I have Energy Melee on a brute and I'll echo what CMA said. The animations of both the high end attacks take much too long for team play. Soloing or duoing it's fine, but on a large team you feel pretty useless.

That said I recently created a stone/stone tank, and it seems like a fun combo so far. But I'm only up to level 12, so I have no idea what the high end attacks will look like.

I have one parked at 50 too. I just really hated leveling this toon more than any other I ever rolled. It was my first Stone so I felt compelled to finish the job.

If I ever do get around to slotting it, I will also include pyre epic for fireball.

Has Castle ever commented on fixing EM? It really needs a fix. I mean if they can remove fear from Burn, come on!

ve played some high end toons before with Energy Melee, and i dont think the animations take TOO long, but i do see what yall mean, but i love the toon so far, hes level 38 now i believe. i read somewhere that with i19 there would be different animations for different powers, not sure if Energy Melee will be one of the sets affected, but who knows. anyways, thanks for all the advice. i really dont wanna re-roll another stone tank, so imma stick it out with this guy for now and just see where it takes me. i mainly just wanna know what would be the best IOs for him and whatnot, anyone know any good builds?

Unfortunately, it's only the ranged attacks that have been done at this point. More significantly, all the new animations have exactly the same length as the existing ones - they're strictly cosmetic. Also, there was a great deal of repetition between the new animations and some strange choices about the available alternates (It's now possible to make an Ice Blast character with only one single-target attack animation). Still pretty cool, though. Most of Sonic Attack doesn't need to be shouts any more.

This is what I had planned as a fulltime granite tanker. May be a starting point for some slotting ideas. Also note that I did not take mud pots, build-up and some other powers that others may desire. I may look at making an i19 build to see if I can find a way to either get pyre epic and/or mud pots back in the build. Man I am still not sure I will want to waste my IOs on it b/c I see it sitting on the shelf anyway lol.

greatly appreciated bro. only thing is now with fitness being inherent, any recommendations for what to replace it? i understand i can still slot it as you recommended, just wonderin what other pools could replace it. either way, thanks again man.

I used the i19 hacked version of mids with inherent fitness/stamina to make this one. You will need that version of mids ot open this one or it won't come out correct.

I looked at fireball but the build is so endurance heavy that I like the extra stamina from body mastery pool. However, I did find room to add in mudpots and a few other changes.

Keep in mind this was a quick pass and probably could be optimized further. Yikes it is expensive though. I am not sure I will ever execute the respec because I would be clearing a ton of IOs off my shelves at my SG base for a toon that may not get that much play.

I have been working on a way to make the pyre epic pool work with this tight build and think I have met my goals. One note- you could put in the achilles proc vs Lady Grey in Melt Armor but as slow as that power recharges...your call.
