CoH causing computer shutdown?

I've tried doing the Halloween Tip Mission 3 times during the past two days, each and every time I got to a certain point in the mission (the narrow tunnels away from the subway track and towards the portal) Clockwork are ambushing, etc, I get a touch of lag, and then a few seconds after it works normally again my computer spontaneously shuts itself down.

I've no idea why, the last time I tried it I had almost everything else shut off, I dunno what's going on.

I'm sure it's not the mission itself that's causing it--I've ran the mission before, on another character, and with this character on a team.

I think it's this particular instance of the mission.

I'm also pretty sure it's not hardware related--I don't even get an 'unexpected shutdown' message when I turn the computer back on.

It only shuts down at that particular area of that particular instance of that particular mission. The screen freezes for a moment, before going back to working normally for a few seconds, then it shuts down.

If you go into your system Event viewer and look at the messages listed there it may give you some insight into what is causing the issue.

Right click the my computer icon and select manage.

Select Event viewer --> system or Select Event Viewer --> Windows logs --> system (Depends on you operating system).

Locate the logs by time for the shutdown. Look for any reds or yellows.

Also is it a shutdown or a restart? If it's a restart it's possible a service is becomming unresponsive and goes to recover mode when your framerate takes a dump in the Halloween tip mission. Typical recover of services trys 3 times to resolve - usually something like - restart service - restart service - do nothing. However some critical services have this recovery scheme - restart service - restart service - restart PC.

Just a shutdown. Where's the Event Viewer?

(I'm presuming here that you're running windows. )

Usually: Start Menu > Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Event Viewer
Sometimes the Admin Tools or Control Panel are unlocatable by that method or not available because you don't have an administrative account.

Also..

Then post the results of these two programs:

  • CoH Helper - it will show us basic computer settings and your CoH configuration.
  • HijackThis - it will show us what's running on your computer concurrently with CoH. Click on "Do a system Scan and save a logfile." It will automatically open up Notepad and put the info there. Make sure Wordwrap is off in Notepad (Format > Wordwrap unchecked) before you cut and paste here.

One side uses mind police and will "disappear" you and the other uses poison gas and bombs on civilians. Hamidon? He'll just have a tree eat you. Much simpler. If we're all going to be oppressed and/or killed by someone, it might as well be the walking trees. At least they don't speak in annoying code or doublespeak. They just devour you.
