Elec^3 Blaster Critique -- Moves/Basic Slotting

As of right now I've yet to use IO's and will have little experience in AH or sets I should be looking for. I will forum dig for that information at a later time and thus critiques to slotting are welcome but understand the slotting is for strictly SO/Basic IO's without consideration to set.

Some notes before the build; I will play the toon as a ranged blaster with enough melee to be effective in close combat. I will be using Sink/Short combo to make use of elec's secondary drains and will use holds to handle boss spawns or mutli lts as necessary. I'm thinking of dropping Hover for CJ right now for the sake of being more verastile on the ground and able to make better use of melee attacks.

Looks almost exactly like my Blaster's build, except with Super Speed swapped for Fly (concept reasons).

I focused on ranged defense: 6-slot Thunderstrike x2, 6-slot Mako's Bite x3 (the third one went into Shocking Grasp, although you could easily swap with Lockdown since the bonus is the same), 6-slot Lockdown, 4-slot Basilisk's Gaze (only because I didn't have the slots to 6-slot another set of Lockdown in Shocking Bolt), 2-slot Blessing of the Zephyr, 3-slot Eradication. This brought me up to 29.6% ranged defense, which is not soft-capped but still quite respectable. With Charged Armor slotted you've got 27% Smashing/Lethal Resistance for those melee occasions.

Disclaimer: I haven't tested thus under very heavy conditions too much, but it seems to hold up well.

What are you considering picking up when i19 drops to replace the Fitness pool. And more importantly, where are the extra slots coming out for those?

I ask because I was thinking possibly going Medicine route for Aid Other/Self, and with only one extra slot, I could 2-slot an activation accelerator or whatever to get a decent heal quickly. Other options are invest in CJ->SL->Acro for knockback/immob/hold resists on those toggles. Might even drop SS for the power if wanted to do both and just get Celestial +Stealth.

Finally, Surge of Power is really just a "I have no other real viable choices" choice. Thinking it might be better then a utility such as Grant Inviso or invest in Leaping for Acro.

I don't think I have a build for that yet. I haven't had a lot of time to devote to any aspect of this game recently, and frankly I'm kind of dreading having to partially rebuild all of my characters post-I19 (although it will help some of them).

I certainly don't plan on the Medicine pool as it breaks with my concept (which is a shame but what can you do), and Acrobatics would be a waste since I already have two KB IOs slotted (BotZ in Fly, Karma in Hover; these are your best bet for KB protection by the way). Hmm...yeah, looking at it there's really nothing I want to do to change this character (and he may be one of the ones I leave un-respecced, hopefully he won't need one later down the line). The only things I could imagine taking at this point are Super Speed, Lightning Field/Clap, and/or Surge of Power, but I probably wouldn't slot any of them beyond the first slot since it would requiring either losing set bonuses or gimping other (better) powers.

My plan is to just use the slots that I ALREADY have in Health and Stamina.

I'm using Fitness going inherent as an excuse to pick up a few powers that need little or no slotting.

Edit: Misunderstood the post. Second part of my reply remains valid, I'm planning on taking powers I don't need to slot much.

Another thing you can do is grab powers that can be used as IO mules.

  • Combat Jumping and/or Maneuvers as a mule for a Karma KB or LotG +Rech (or even Kismet +6% Acc if that's your cup of tea, although that one is unique).
  • If you like to do a lot of Task Forces (or even just regular teaming), Stealth and Recall Friend would be two good powers to take that wouldn't need any slots (Stealth would also be another place to slot LotG: +Rech).
  • Air Superiority might be another option; although you wouldn't be slotting it, the knockup and -Fly would both be handy mitigation tools for a Blaster.
Gosh, suddenly I'm reconsidering my earlier statement that I might not respec my Elec^3.

stealth + tp friend are nice but that's also 2 outta 4 power pool choices. I was thinking of achieving stealth through unbounded leap: stealth and cj, then maybe use extra slots from not sleceting hover and either putting them into cj for muling some set or investing in medicine pool and aid self (for quick self heal). I worry though withoout a power boost if that heal will be too little to be of any use other then cutting downtime between encounters.

Also considering taking lightning field and slotting a end mod or two so ican siphon of end in a pinch but I don't think it will come to that. Also acrobatics still sticks out as amove I can pick up to help survivability and allow to focus on def or rech sets as opposed to kb resistence. Honestly the power pools are getting kinda useless when looking at io sets and stat bonuses.

Also would 4 slotting holds with basilisk or other io set be enough? I currently have them 5 slotted but wanna try to free up a couple slots in case I wanna go for some different sets.

Compared to the set slotting I described a few posts earlier, you'd lose a net of 5% ranged defense and gain 15% recharge. Depending on what you're going to do with the extra slots it might not hurt you that much. The Lockdown proc really is handy to have though, I would recommend it for at least one of your holds (which is what I have).

Re-reading it, it sounds like you have Basilisk's 5-slotted in your holds? You could get away with the first four pieces of the set I suppose (skipping the quad-aspect and the proc; not even sure why one would use that proc outside of PvP). Set bonus-wise you're losing 10% mez resistance but that's not helping you much anyway. Again though, the Lockdown proc is really nice, it makes perma-holding EBs that much easier.
