I don't know where you'd hear that gauntlet doesn't work.
You're probably hearing about how WP has a very weak taunt aura, which is true. It's a mag 3 taunt with 1/10th the duration of most taunt auras.
You may not need taunt to hold aggro now, but once you're in the thick of it with a shield or invuln scrapper, you probably will.

Gauntlet is only so good. Eventually there could come a time when a Scrapper would be better instead of WP Tank relying on gauntlet and RttC alone. Add to that people have different standards on what is tanking over different scenarios. Gauntlet requires a tohit check. RttC has a duration that really requires mobs within the aura and kept there without the use of gauntlet as, as soon as they're outside of it that's it, they could go after anyone. Also, some other players with their characters are likely to gain more threat than you at times which can prove counter productive to a teams needs.
Can't be a tanker and be shy really, try doing a build and we can look at it, change it and suggest things. I am at work so not able to do a build right now.

The duration is also important in that aggro is a function of taunt duration remaining.
A 12 second taunt is ten times more powerful than a 1.2 second taunt.

Taunt durations may read x but in actuality due to lvl, scaling to mobs and/or resistance, x could be less. I pretty much say sod them figures and learn by experience.

Anyone got a good build for this set? ive been really liking it so far, anyone have like useful tips or notes? Btw i keep hearing gauntlet doesnt ork but i have an easy time getting aggro without Taunt
