grav/elec powers
Grav/Elec plays best at range because...
You have only 3 melee attacks: charged brawl, havoc punch and TS with TS coming late in the build
You have 7 ranged attacks: lift, crush, grav distort, propel, crushing field, charged bolts, lightning bolt, static discharge with the majority of those available before 20
Your 2 pets work at range: singy and VS
Your main AoE controls also work at range: WH, GDF
Based on that, your strength lies in taking mostly ranged attacks and keeping everything controlled at a distance where you'll just blast away. Beware taking on large numbers of foes because of your lack of AoE (so avoid x4 and higher). Stick with smaller numbers although you can bump up the lvl (+2 and higher) with the difficulty slider to maximize xp.
However, if you want to make a mix melee/range, then I'd take all 3 melee powers. I'd also take static discharge because it's your only ranged AoE available until epics unless you commit to slotting CF with dmg procs. In fact, I took both and use them in combo with Ball Lightning from the Mu PPP to get some respectable ranged AoE dmg. I'd recommend Lift over Propel in this scenario because it'll give you a fast animating pseudo melee knockup. You can skip crush and propel, and rely on charged bolt, lightning bolt, lift and GD for your ranged attacks.

i'm trying to make a lvl 40 SO/common IO build and i'm having a hard time picking powers. with all of my pool choices, i have 12 slots for my primary/secondary. i have experience with a grav dom (/icy, but was too slow) and /elec blaster, but am still very torn.

i would like to have some AoE damage either in TS or SD (i solo a lot, so KB isn't as much of an issue). how much damage output is VS compared to other powers? should i just drop SD and VS and have all the melee, but push pool choices out? or drop lift or crush (most likely lift) for SD or VS later? (i guess if i leave out lift until later, i might as well get VS?)
i like the mixed ranged/melee doms and if you would like to know my power pool choices are: hasten, ss, hurdle, health, stamina, cj, aid other, aid self.
i guess i've kinda answered my own questions: pick lift early and drop ch brawl since i'll get havoc punch at 10 anyway and lift and ch brawl have similar damage, type aside (unless red tomax isn't updated). i guess there is still a choice in my final 2 powers, either TS and SD or TS and VS.
any thoughts?
