Dark/Stone, Shadow Maul, and Fury
Yes, fury degrades more over the animation time than you gain for having used the power. It is still the only decent recharge AoE you're getting until the 40s and if you have a few foes attacking you the 'loss' isn't noticable. No, you don't get bonus fury for hitting multiple targets. Take and slot swift, your in combat speed will only be a fraction slower than base run speed unless you run both rooted and granite at the same time, perfectly adequate for a sidestep or two.
Yeah, it's pretty much it for regular-recharging AOE you're gonna get (Dark Consumption and Soul Drain both do damage, but even slotted for it it's not really very useful), so you gotta grab it. You pretty much need to grab Shadow Punch or Boxing as a DM brute; you need something that charges fast with a quick animation time. I usually cycle through the fast animation stuff a few times before cutting loose with Shadow Maul.
I think, but am not good enough with the math, that per the changes to fury with i18 this will no longer be the case. Castle posted something in the big thread just yesterday about reducing fury during fights, but after a few seconds of no attacks fury degrades really fast. Obviously this is just what is being tested and it's not a final version so could change.

I can be found, outside of paragon city here.
Thank you everyone at Paragon and on Virtue. When the lights go out in November, you'll find me on Razor Bunny.
I'm making another try at a Dark Melee/Stone Armor Brute. I'm trying to decide if I should respec out of Shadow Maul, and have a few questions.
Is it true that using it results in a net loss of Fury due to its animation time? And if so, is it still worth keeping despite that drawback? Would the number of targets within its range when i use it affect the Fury I get from it (i.e. will hitting multiple targets give me any more Fury than hitting one)? Will running Rooted, and later Granite Armor, significantly affect my ability to line up enemies for Shadow Maul's cone?
So, what do you think?
