Ragecrash and defenses...

Hi @all!

This is about rage in general, not only on brutes... so I'm posting in this forum.

I have a question that has been bothering me for some time now. This is about "Rage" on a SS/Shield Character. I did not spec into it because of the ragecrash. Though now after reading some of the posts in this forum about SS/x or x/SS characters I'm not sure about this skill anymore. I had it an my SS/Invul Brute and liked it... except for when it crashed. So I made my shield brute without it. The thing is shield really lives because of it's defenses, so my question is...

How does everyone get around the -def debuff from the ragecrash?

Aside from the lack of rage my brute is doing fine. I can go on forever without ever stopping to fight and I do massive AOE damage (footstomp, shieldcharge and ball lightning, I really love +2/8-Maps full of mobs). Killspeed is really ok with all the fury i generate and softcapped defenses and aid self and knockdowns... well let's say I almost never die.

If you'd like I can post my build later...

Cheers,
Schlu.

PS: I'm almost sure that this question has been answered in another thread which I have not found with searchfu. If so, please link me to it... Thanks!

A while back, Castle was working on tweaks to the mechanics behind the Rage crash, which is when he settled on the current version as a "temporary" stop-gap until he could find something that didn't penalize a particular defense set more than its peers (used to be a short "only affecting self" and "no temporary powers" period, which was changed to the current -damage sometime after I11). While it's not possible to avoid the endurance crash or damage debuff, you can avoid by the defense debuff simply by stacking Rage. Just as the icon starts to blink in your buff bar, activate Rage again, and your defense won't drop. (You can stack Rage as soon as it's recharged, but I wouldn't really recommend doing so because it means more crashes, which is why I've switched to firing it off again as the previous instance is about to drop.)

TL;DR version: The defense debuff doesn't happen if you activate a new application of Rage before the previous one wears off.

Thankyou... your help is much appreciated.

Now I have to get Rage back into the build and make it perma... this won't be easy because my brute's build is very tight. -.- and I thought i was finished... xD.

Have fun!

Rage is incredibly easy to Perma. If you have any global +recharge, 2 slots is all it needs.

3 recharge SOs will get it within a few seconds. Throw in Hasten and even a few +rech set bonuses and you'll be set.
