SR will be a lot easier and cheaper to soft-cap then Shields. SR would have more DDR unless you're planning on investing a heck of a lot of inf on the toon. SR also gets a 20% Recharge bonus that Shield lacks. I think it really comes down to how much money you're going to be putting into this toon and his build.
I wouldn't be considering this if Going Rogue wasn't on the horizon, but I've had an itch for a while to make a homage to Dauntless, Galaxy Girl's sidekick.
Dauntless's Story
My homage character is going to be someone who was inspired by Dauntless's life story to also try to make a difference in Paragon City. Based on his story, my assumption is that Dauntless was probably a MA/Super Reflexes Scrapper.
Thing is, I do not like Martial Arts, and I sort of like the idea of the character being a Natural Character who doesn't know what he's doing at first who has no special skills who just decides one day: "Hey, I'm going to fight crime like Dauntless did!"
So, with that proviso, it seems to me that bladed weapons or claws would also be out for this guy as he is not (at the beginning at least) very skilled at combat. Hence, I'm looking at a Brute-- and post Going Rogue-- to make him.
So Mace seems to be his weapon of choice as I can use weapon customization to make it look like he picked up a baseball bat or wrench or some other mundane blunt instrument.
The thing is, I'm not sure if I want his secondary to be Shield or Super Reflexes. Either can work with his concept, I think.
Is there any reason to take SR over Shield?
