CoX will not load after updater

So I didn't log into the game for about a week and at first when I tried loading in after the updater it just wouldn't do anything the login page wouldn't load, and now its coming up with an error message saying action "bunch of numbers" could not be read X "bunch of numbers" click ok to terminate action.

Is it just me? If so what do I do?

Try the simple fix first. Go into the CoH folder and delete the coh.checksum file, then click your desktop icon for the game and let the files rebuild/repair themselves. (At this piont, you might want to defrag.) Then veryify files, and see if you can get into your game. Good luck!

nothings working when I deleted the checksum files it actually deleted my test, EU and NA updaters lol, and now when I try to download the client from the website I get the error message again.

At this point, I'd probably rip it out and reinstall.

Yeah. I know. A 3GB DL is no fun.

Wont let me re-install either just the same error message, I erased anything to do with CoX from my PC at this point, and now nothing I do will allow me to re-install, I've checked if its a problem with my PC, but absolutly NOTHING else seems to cause any problems?

That is strange...deleting your coh.checksum file should not have done anything with your test file. Hyperstrike is correct..you should reinstall the game. When you said you 'erased' anything to do with cox, does that mean you didn't actually uninstall it?? Perhaps you could post a HijackThis and CoH Helper here and some of the brilliant techies can spot something that could help more.

I uninstalled it completely, and now everytime I try to instal it it just comes up with the same error message </3
I really have no clue where the problem is, I tried hijackthis but when I did it on CoX the error message came up lol...

Are you familiar with the term "canary in a coal mine"?

Miners used to use canaries in cages as indicators for buildup of gasses that are toxic/explosive.

Because the canary has a lower body mass and a higher metabolic rate than a human, levels that are lethal to use kill them first.

If the canary's alive and singing, you're good. If Tweety keels over dead, GET THE *BLEEP!* OUT!

Simply because nothing else on your system is causing (or seeming to cause) a problem doesn't mean something's not wrong with your system. And it may just be that CoH is stressing the things that are being problematic.

If CoH is crashing reliably, refusing to run, etc. Sure, that could just be CoH's fault.

If it's flat out REFUSING TO INSTALL, something else is going on with your system.

Jas, we're not asking you to tell us HijackThis works. We're asking you for your HijackThis log. To be posted here, in the forum, in this thread.

Until we can get that, and maybe the output of CoH Helper, we can't do more than make guesses as to what your problem is.

Check out this thread, Common Solutions & Posting Guidelines

Then post the results of these two programs:

  • CoH Helper - it will show us basic computer settings and your CoH configuration.
  • HijackThis - it will show us what's running on your computer concurrently with CoH. Click on "Do a system Scan and save a logfile." It will automatically open up Notepad and put the info there. Make sure Wordwrap is off in Notepad (Format > Wordwrap unchecked) before you cut and paste here.

Okay, you're probably looking at an OS reload at this point.
You COULD try to simply delouse the PC. But that takes an inordinate amount of time and there's always the possibilities that:

  1. You'll miss something and wind up at this point again in a couple days/weeks/months.
  2. The OS install may be too badly damaged by this point to be fixable.
With an OS reload, you take a couple hours to reinstall, update, etc and you're back on.

Does this suck? Not to put TOO fine a point on it? HELL YEAH.
HOWEVER, I've found that it's infinitely preferable to hours and hours spent rooting around in the system only to find out you have to reinstall anyhow.
My time is worth a lot to me. So I prefer not to waste it.

One thing you might want to try, if you can still burn ISO files to CD.

Take some time and run a Memtest disk. Just to make sure you don't have any "marginal" memory modules in the system.

Download the ISO from the page above and burn it to CD.

Boot from that CD and let it run for a while (preferably during a time it is convenient to just walk away from the computer). It should catch any issues with bad memory or unstable memory controllers.

Also, before you wipe the system, back up anything you want to keep off the system and set it aside.

DO NOT RELOAD THAT STUFF OR EVEN RECONNECT THE BACKUP DRIVE UNTIL AFTER YOU HAVE INSTALLED AND UPDATED AN ANTIVIRUS PACKAGE!!!

Sorry to go all psychotic with the huge, colored text. But I've had people pull stuff from old systems in the past and reload it even BEFORE loading antivirus packages and reinfect a brand new install.

Ideally, you should load all programs from CD/DVD or fresh downloads off the internet (including AV) after the reinstall.

Hopefully, with a fresh install, you'll wind up with a more stable system that'll actually, y'know, work right.

One other thing. More in the nature of friendly advice Forget about reloading Limewire. Calling it a potential trojan and a portal for system infection through downloads is being kind...

Understatement of the century. That and IIRC the company behind it is currently getting it's rear end sued off by one of the copyright groups. So it's days are probably numbered anyhow.

It is known that there are an infinite number of worlds, simply because there is an infinite amount of space for them to be in. However, not every one of them is inhabited. Therefore, there must be a finite number of inhabited worlds. Any finite number divided by infinity is as near to nothing as makes no odds, so the average population of all the planets in the Universe can be said to be zero. From this it follows that the population of the whole Universe is also zero, and that any people you may meet from time to time are merely the products of a deranged imagination.
