remote price check temp power
nice idea, but would probably never be implemented.
While giving players access to the market servers should be as simple as allowing players to access the market servers from any point within the game, and probably would have been done now, there is the consideration that the market already has a reputations for being known as Lagworths or Black lagart. On servers such as Freedom or Virtue, the market interface can get dramatically slower in places like Talos Island or St. Martial as the system tries to compensate for / deal with masses of players access the market from a localized position.
At least with the market houses the developers can somewhat manage the number of concurrent queries and lookups being made to the market datebase.
Giving players the ability to manage or check on market prices at any place in the game would send ping rates skyrocketing into the AT&Tsphere, and cause congestion that would make Comcast's throttling look like a Knology Fiber line.
Sure, you might think that another 5Kbit stream on your 3Mbit connection isn't much to sneaze or sniff at, and it really isn't. Hundreds of those streams making connection calls, requiring table lookups? At the server, it would add up in a hurry.
So, nice idea, but at pretty impractical for the game right now.

Okay. Okay. I know World of Warcraft has such an app where you can check market prices anytime from anywhere. They also have billions of real-life dollars to spend on computer hardware to throw at the problem. I think I'm also right in saying that the Auction House for WoW was included in the game's original programming spec, and wasn't a tacked on extra. Basically, it's not a fair comparison, and citing WoW as a reason to do anything... well. It's not a reason.
I would like to see a temp power that gave me the ability to run a price check while in the middle of a mission, i.e. give me the readout on the last 5 sales at Wentworth's. That way if my recipe inventory is full so that I need to start deleting recipes, I could check on whether a particular recipe is worth hanging onto.
