Ultimate Tanker

I've heard that super strength/stone has ridiculous defense once you get granite armor. The only problem is that once you activate granite armor, you move freaking slow. If only you get a speed boost, but I don't always want to depend on someone helping me. I mean, we're tankers! We are unstoppable and don't need someone helping us. Right now i got a level 27 tank with super strength/invulnerability and its survivability is pretty good. But I've read from other posts that super strength/willpower is really good. Which secondary power should I choose? I would love a build that has high defense without using granite armor. The only problem with invulnerability is that our psionic resistance is very low. If anyone has a build they think is decent, please post it. I would love to have a look at it.

This is the build I plan on using for my SS/Inv when I actually get back to playing. Hopefully it will give you some ideas.

Which secondary power should I choose?
Okay, right off, you need to get your terminology right so we're all on the same page. Super Strength is your SECONDARY. Unless, of course, you're talking about a BRUTE. As a tank, your attack set is your secondary. Your armor set is your primary.

Next terminology issue. Do you actually mean 'defense', which is a game mechanic that make you get hit less, or are you using the word in a generic sense to mean a tank that is very hard to defeat? If so, use another word since 'defense' has a specific/technical meaning in this game.

Invuln is a very tough set. The lack of psi resistance is trivial. Regen and self heals (like Dull Pain) make up for it and have allowed me to tank psionic AV's and entire missions of psi enemies (like the Praetorian asylum mission).

If you're really worried about psionic damage, pick a set with a good self heal and/or take Aid Self. Dark armor gets good psi resistance and the biggest self-heal in the game. My suggestion, though, would be to build for the other 97% of the game and not worry about psi.

P.S. I don't use Mids so I can't post a build but my invuln has Tough and Aid Self and is stupid-tough.

Sorry for using my terminology wrong guys. I guess I was too used to my attack as my primary and my defense as my secondary. Thanks for the suggestions so far. I have to put some thought into my primary power.

The "Ultimate" tanker is the one that you play the best.

Period.

I have 8 tanks, 6 are level 50 and the other 2 are 30+.

Stone/SS is a decent combo, I made mine back before ED, and it was fun as could be. After ED, I hated it. I could throw a bunch of Inf at it and make it more fun again, but I just don't like toons that NEED IOs to be fun.

The tank I love most is my DA/DM. I loved it leveling it up, I love it now that it is completely IOd. I have done some amazing stuff with it, including making other tankers of "superior" armors look stupid. I have done the same with my fire tank.

Stone gets a lot attention as being the "Ultimate" tanker, because it is the easiest to cap out defensively. That said, a lot of people that play stone tanks are terrible tankers. They have no concept of aggro management, or end management in some cases, and are just generally bad players. The bigger problem I have seen with stone is that it is somewhat forgiving of bad play when it comes to survivability. Being nigh indestructible is not the only job of a tank. For this reason, there is no bad choice for your primary as a tanker, only bad tankers.

Dark Armor is like that kid you knew in school that didn't know when to shut up, and no matter how bad he got beaten down, he got right back up again and kept on talking.

Stone/DM and Inv/DM shouldnt be overlooked. Great defenses with great tools. Stone/ slows them up solo - that's a little bit of a pain (use the dual build option), but out of the box and with some speed buffs by far the sturdiest tank I've played. Inv/DM is good. No penalties. Not as sturdy with SO's or basic IO's as stone/, but fully IO'ed using Most Amazing's Guide's, it becomes outstanding.

Light on damage, especially PBAoE? Yep, but they both manage argo well and I don't build tanks for peeps to say "hey, look how much damage that tank is doing."

Secondary effects like KD/KB go a long way for survival of self and team. In this reguard, IMO, DM is lacking. But DM's tools are really something to consider.
