I think it is just the phrasing that the OP used that is ticking people off.

"Please provide proof" Besides being nicely alliterative, the word proof suggests that there is doubt about the veracity of people's statements.

If the OP had said "Can someone show me where a dev has said this?" or "If you know where there has been official comment, can you point me in the direction?"

In the end the answer would have been either Dev Digest or Paragon Wiki, so the result is the same. But there would be less grumbling.

IF you're involved in a debate, then there IS an obligation on the part of yoru opponent to provide citations, sources etc. However, in a request for readily available information things are different.
