I have a windows xp machine, that I just did a clean install on. When I attempt to log off an account when multiple accounts are active, the screen goes black and does not recover. I am assuming it is a driver issue but wanted to get second thoughts from others here.

Possible solution: http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=328934

Your scenario sounds like what that KB article describes.

It is known that there are an infinite number of worlds, simply because there is an infinite amount of space for them to be in. However, not every one of them is inhabited. Therefore, there must be a finite number of inhabited worlds. Any finite number divided by infinity is as near to nothing as makes no odds, so the average population of all the planets in the Universe can be said to be zero. From this it follows that the population of the whole Universe is also zero, and that any people you may meet from time to time are merely the products of a deranged imagination.

If you did a clean install, remember once you fix this to do windows updates to SP3 and beyond...

BBC News:
Microsoft to patch 17-year-old computer bug
Infected XP owners left unpatched

I would quote but easier to read from the site, in context.

Nuff Said...

After my clean install I always ensure every other computer is turned off and unplugged from the network, and install every windows update and service pack first thing. I already have and had sp3 installed with the patches

It appears that patch only works if you are using an older service pack which is not my case.
