Underclocking Ram

Hey guys, just a quick one.

I'm pretty sure i know the answer to this but i thought i'd ask to make sure.


Would PC-8500 automatically underclock with my motherboard being capped at PC2-6400?

I'm trying to spend as little as possible and for some reason PC-8500 is cheaper.

Assuming it is otherwise compatible with your system, I'd expect it would work. The speed rating on memory is generally the speed limit, i.e. the fastest it can go. Slower speeds should prove no issue for it. You'll just never be able to get it up to max due to your system's limits.

Just wanted to be sure before buying as i only want a quick "upgrade" till Xmas time so "cheap" ddr2 will do for now
