Cannot Connect to Game Server at Login

I see a lot of people have issues with connecting sometimes for various reasons. However, in searching thru the forums I couldn’t locate any that really helped me. One came close but mentioned something called a “NIC” (which I don’t know) and regarded different hardware then mine. I have been in touch with NCsoft Tech support for the last three days and am still attempting to get my ISP to respond. I’m hoping someone here will be able to help. Ok, here is my problem:

Long time player of CoH left and am now back. Within that time I’ve had to purchase a new PC as the old one finally went kapoot. In logging in, I get past the updater just fine, but after an extremely long load-up and putting in my username/password I get that oh-so-special popup stating I can’t connect to their server.

What I have done to attempt to fix:
-Totally disabled Firewall on Router/modem and hardware
-Closed ALL security programs
-Setup Static IP and Port forwarding to specific ports
-Rebooted router/modem after each
-Uninstalled/Reinstalled game (just to be on the safe side)
-Switched second computer Ethernet jack in router/modem with first computer’s (I have two comps jacked into same router/modem) thinking second comp was jacked into a DMZ port.*

*Second computer runs game fine, quickly, with no issues. First computer (the newer one) is the one I have trouble with.

That Net Info Tool I used for the NCsoft Tech said there is an “unknown error” in port 2106 (which CoH uses) and is assumed by the Tech as the cause of the issue and was reason port forwarding was attempted – however, my 2nd comp works fine with game despite any of this.

So any help would be greatly appreciated. I still haven’t heard back from my ISP and not sure if this is their problem as the 2nd comp works fine on the same router/modem. I keep saying that because it seems to me the issue is with my new comp and not the router/modem. In any event, someone please help. I am sick to death of playing the typical Swords & Sorcery games (EQ1 & 2, AoC, Vanguard, Etc.) and need my super villain fix. Thanks.

PS - "Router/Modem" translates into a single unti both modem and router provided by my ISP. Service comes from the wall, into the single unit, then into my two seperate comps. just in case there is any confusion. =)

I am finding the same problem tonight, so your not the only one. New computer just can't log in. I can log completely out but if I crash to desktop or switch characters I cannot get back in.

Okay. Sev. couple of notes.

NIC stands for: Network Interface Controller

It is the physical connection in your computer that you connect to the internet with.
Second: you can't disable the Firewall in a Modem / Router.
A Router uses technology called Network Address Translation, or N.A.T. for short. N.A.T. is what separates and directs information from the internet side of the router to the separate computers on the computer's side of the routers.

A firewall simply controls whether or not ports are open. When a router says it comes with a firewall, this just means that the port controls are exposed to the user through the router.
Third: DMZ is controlled by IP address, not by the physical port
The IP address of your computer is generally assigned by your computers Media Access Controller Address, or M.A.C. address. The M.A.C. address is a hardware number in the actual physical controller. You can identify the MAC address under windows by running the command ipconfig /all through a command prompt. This command will also give you your IP address.

If your router has a DMZ set, you will need to access the router's internal control panel and set the DMZ to your computers current IP address.

***

Now, I need some more information here.

First: What kind of Modem/Router are you using?
As in, what's the brand name printed on the modem?

The most common DSL and Cable Modem / Router combination generally sold by the big providers comes from Arris. However, there are Cable Modem / Router combinations sold from both Motorola (the SBG900) and Netgear (CG814M).
***

Second: What is your IP address on the computer your are trying to connect with?
Most routers give the ip address of 192.168.x.x, where the final two numbers change.

If you don't know how to open the command prompt, simply go to your Windows menu and use the Run entry, or Windows 7 the Search entry, and type in the word: cmd

Hit enter and this will bring up the command prompt where you can enter ipconfig /all

If you are not pulling an IP address, but pulling a number like 72.x.x.x, 68.x.x.x, 112.x.x.x, 24.x.x.x, or so on, you are not running through a router.

This is why I need to know what modem/router you are running through. Some modems can contain a hub instead of a router, and your ISP will simply assign you two different IP address's, one for each M.A.C. address attached to each Network Interface Controller. If this is your setup, there could be an address conflict.
***

Third: what security software do you have loaded?
Applications like Norton Internet Security or McAfee suite are not necessarily turned off when you disable them by their command interfaces. In the case of troubleshooting connection problems, these two suites are generally at the top of the list for most major ISP's for software that needs to be removed before further troubleshooting can take place.

It looks like you have AVG loaded, which isn't known to cause any conflicts with the game. However, if your computer shipped with something other than AVG, traces of the old program could still be in residence.

You might also want to check and make sure that the Windows Firewall is disabled through the Windows Control Panel.

Having trouble posting, says too many troubling characters or post size. Quickly putting this out to at least post the answers to your questions. Thanks again for your help!

LegionAlpha, I'm sorry, good luck, I feel your pain!

1 Actiontec Q1000
2 192.168.0.01 or .02 or .03 it changes each time modem/router is rebooted.
3 AVG, Comodo, Spybot, Malwarebytes. I think I got rid of Norton or McAffey as I don't see them and vaguely remember doing so. I shut them all off. If any are running in background after that I am unaware of it.

Thanks again!
