Inv/SS improvement?

I'm looking at tweaking my tank and wondered if there's any suggestions anyone here would care to make.

My plan was to take damage, not deal it out. I like the presence pool - I find it another way of crowd control. I have done a couple of options without it, but never thought that the benefits (hasten being one) were enough to make removing it worthwhile. I also have a thing for fly.

His biggest issue right now is endurance. I do have TFC, AM and FPRM and I am working on Portal Jockey.

So on the respec I have these goals:
* maintain soft cap S/L Def/res
* increase max endurance which I feel gives better return than increasing recovery
* increase psi def/res - I've been told not to worry about this but I do
* improve regen/recovery
* try and keep the other def/res decent
* tweaking of power choice timing so I can exemp down to 35 without problems

So my queries are these:
* Is it worth pushing psi def/res? The first TF I tanked was a shard one and it was not a pleasant experience. Other than endurance he stands up pretty well as is.
* Is perma DP really worth it? I'm over the HP cap with DP and (I think) respectable without it. Is it being down for that period really a big deal?
* Is it a daft idea to drop rage? I rarely use it because I hate the crash.
* I friend says he has capped Def across the board. Does that make a huge difference if you have S/L def/res capped?
* Any suggestions on what level IOs to slot? My instinct is that I won't exemp down any lower than a Manticore TF, so I was thinking 38's to keep the set bonuses. But then I have a fair amount of 50's knocking around (for scirroco/numina etc); should I just use those and ignore losing the sets when exemp'd?

Any other ideas/comments, I would welcome them. He's my first tank and I've very fond of him but I know sometimes I hang on to 'how the character started' rather than bite the bullet and make a change.

First, I'll clarify that I don't consider myself a Tank pro. Honestly, I don't even like playing Tanks, but my first 50 was one and I do take pride in his performance and do bring him out periodically.

So, to your questions:

I've built 26% Psi Def and I absolutely stand by that. I was the tank on a Hydra trial recently. Getting a Fort cast on me capped me to psi. Three years ago, the first time I ever tanked Hydra with my Inv/SS he got WRECKED. Res bonuses are puny, but 12% is what I've got. That's not what keeps me alive to psi but I'll take it.

I use DP reactively as a heal. Having it up faster is always a good thing. Still, if you build up your Def and Res (and I did), I find I don't use DP much at all.

Probably not, if you're truly talking about a team tank. I tend to not use it if I'm worried about the endurance crash. Otherwise, I use it because I still like SMASH, even on a tank.

I can only give a testimonial as someone with s/l soft-capped with 1 foe, all else (not psi) with 2 foes, I don't think it does.

Practically speaking, a tf like Manticore, Katie Hannon or Numina, have become so trivially easy I wouldn't worry about it. Personally I'm more interested in staying upright mano-y-mano against Lord Recluse or running through a bunch of Cimerorans to solo a cyst or a general. My bonuses are from either lvl 40 sets or lvl 50.

The shortest way for you to help your endurance issue IMO is to add the three uniques I'm showing in my revision of your build to Health. This also improves your regen. It will not work quite as well in game if a pending nerf goes live, but it should make a large difference.

I also threw some GotA into your defensive powers; that should help a bit there.

Why in the name of the Styx are you mucking around with the Presence pool? I swapped out one of the first two powers for Taunt, which lets you keep the same sets. If this is part of your concept and you enjoy it, by all means keep it. Unlike Challenge or Provoke, Taunt is guaranteed to work on archvillains --- those two weak substitutes have a to-hit check --- and if you are working towards a defense capped build I gather you intend to fight the worst of them.

If you dump the Presence pool, you can:
  • get Tough and Weave earlier,
  • free up a bunch of slots for elsewhere, and
  • get the Energy Mastery epic pool at 41,
which will do you a world of good.

This represents somewhat more radical surgeroy on your build, getting rid of the Presence pool and freeing up a number of slots for elsewhere. The powers shown don't really require slots in large numbers, so I put them to work elsewhere. You will worsen your endurance problems if you rely on recycling Rage for a to-hit bonus, especially since the Smashing Haymaker set you have several instances of is weak on accuracy.
