New Defiance?

Hi, I left CoX during I11 and just recently resubbed, and am really enjoying the many changes. Anyway, I thought I heard that defiance has changed again since I11. Is this true? If so, how does the current version of defiance work? Thanks in advance!

Main thing is, you don't have to be almost dead in order to use your inherent.

Now, you can shoot the Tier 1 & Tier 2 blasts even when mezzed, and for each blast you fire off, the damage has a multiplier.

Welcome back. Lots of good changes while you've been gone. A few that can affect you as a blaster:

Many squishies used to avoid grabbing powers that were toggles like Tactics because it was such a pain retoggling everything after being mezzed. But now as long as a power isn't offensive (like a damage aura) it stays on while you're mezzed.

You can now also combine any 3 of the same type of inspiration to create one you want by right-clicking on them. Need an Awaken? Make one!

Another easy to overlook ability is you can now have more than 3 power trays up, and right-click them to choose their shape. You can even squish them against the side of your screen and they'll adjust their shapes.

You can catch up on the other game updates here.

The Paragon Wiki link explains the complete revamp to Defiance pretty well. Instead of occasional streaks of jawdroppingly MASSIVE damage, you get modestly increased average damage in extended fights, and less fear of mezzes. Unless you have frighteningly large recharge boosts in your build, taking both your tier 1 and 2 blast is generally advised.

Sardan points out some less publicized but no less dramatic boosts. Mezzes will now suppress most toggles rather than disable them, so although they (usually) provide no benefits while the mez is in effect, you bounce back to full potency when it fades without having to retoggle. The exceptions are offensive or foe-anchored toggles, such as Snowstorm or Radiation Infection. Insp combination, while mostly praised for making it easier to get wakies in a pinch, lets you make use of otherwise useless drops, and as a blaster, careful insp usage is a big deal.

Rule number six of an empathy defender is NEVER underestimate a blaster's ability to die. I don't care if he has CM, Fort, both RAs, bubbles (both FF and Sonic), and is fighting next to a Storm defender with hurricane on. If there is a way to die in that situation, the blaster will find it.
