As for the graphics card, I was told the offer I had been proposed (wicked deal on a BFG 285GTX OC) isn't going to work as they can no longer get the card.
Since my order had already been approved they proposed the same kind of rebate on another card (about 33% odd retail), but none of the other cards appeal to me.
I may find myself relying on the kids' PC playing in safemode whenever they're not using it, which means rarely, until I can replace it.
Since Real LifeĀ issues came up, that expense may have to be put on the back burner for a while longer.

And I totally forgot about Stalemate having a dead video card.
i was the madman running around as Detective Freeguy, mainly in RWZ, Founders and PI.... still am too XD.... just trying to get a TF together there so i can see what the dmg is like on a TF

Got a replacement card tonight - weeks ahead of the planned schedule.
Put that little ATI 5850 thru the paces just a bit to get the settings to my liking in Paragon City. I'll be testing it further over the weekend as time allows.
I know Smite... I know. I changed my mind at the counter tonight. Literally.
Impyre suggested something to try with the previous 8800GT card (which involves an oven), so I'll give that a shot and see if I can revive it or not and have the artefacting at post disappear.

Quick follow up here, to pursue the hijacking further:
- 50M received from Smite for New Player Council events
- New Asus EAH5858 vid card has replaced the faulty* 880GT (was even artefacting during post) and I'm back in Paragon City. Hide your badges.
- *Faulty card repaired by stripping and cleaning it, setting it up to bake at 385F for 9 minutes. After a 30 min. cool down it was remounted and set up in wife's PC. It has been working fine since last Friday.
