New to redside...DM/EA help

Hello all. I've been playing for 2 years on the blue side and have finally made the switch...TO EVIL! I rolled a DM/EA Brute last night but have no clue what to do with him!

I usually play Scrappers...3 lvl 50 Kat Scraps, 2 lvl 50 DB's and various others. BUT, I've never touched either of these sets: DM or EA.

I was hoping that someone could provide a "beginners" build just with standard IO's so that I have a path to explore.

I'm a big fan of ST damage w/ some AOE capability which seems like it shouldn't be a problem with this toon. I plan on taking CJ and SJ unless there is something that would suit the build better. If hasten is a "requirement" then I might go SS instead. I don't mind skipping a travel power now that I've seen what can be done with Ninja Run, Swift and/or Hurdle and a Jump or Raptor pack.

Also, I'm an endurance freak! Can't get enough but that doesn't seem like it will be a problem either.

Normally, I would make a build and stick it up here for review but it seems that DM has many do's and don’ts from what I've read that I thought I'd go this route instead.

Thank you in advance!

I'm going to assume you mean Energy Aura, not ELectric Armor.

Shadowmaul, Soul Drain and Dark Consumption do not offer much viable AoE. You'll want to consider yourself a single target specialist. Actually, if you decide to go this route, you might even skip taunt and let your teammates know you aren't a tank and won't be holding aggro (no taunt aura too). Think of yourself more as a scrapper.

Where did you hear that? Some people hate shadowmaul, some love it. Some find great utility in touch of fear, some don't. Touch of Fear is great for you for leveling, as it applies a ~10% to-hit debuff to help with your non-IO'd defenses, as well as offering a mag-3 fear effect.

I'm going to post a leveling build 1-40 for Dark Armor/Energy Aura. If you meant electric, just take EVERYTHING in the secondary, except possibly the T9.

You can choose either Shadow Maul or Shadow Punch in this build. I chose shadowmaul, partly as a future spot to slot a nice eradication 4-slot set with scirrocco rounding it out.

Also, I would not recommend you play as "alpha tank" on this character for teaming, so I held off on taunt until later. Instead, think of yourself more as a stalker, singling out the hard targets and punching them.

I chose the powers based on what would work best for a single-origin build. If I was to use IO's, I'd grab tough/weave and work towards getting 45% defense to all types of damage (excluding psionic and possibly negative). That would likely mean dropping Darkest Night, Dampening Field and Energy Protection in favor of boxing/tough/weave. Also with IO's, I would move around some slots and work on efficiency.

D'oh! I DID mean ELA...sorry about that!

Thanks for the advice though...I'll start there and see how it goes. I really appreciate your time on this!

Ignore the IO sets in this build. This is a WIP, and I plan on reslotting siphon for a little better numbers.

Notice the lack of taunt. Run in there, let the taunt aura do it's work, and if a squishy is stupid enough to attack before you've arrived, hard lessons are great. I'd probably swap darkest night out for dark oblit for some more AoE and better aggro. Also notice that I didn't pick up my aura until later. You'll want to hold off until you've gotten your end under control. You'll also notice it's slotted for damge and end redux. I've seen many players that never knew Lightning Field really puts out a tremendous amount of damage over time.

For leveling up, I might reorder the powers a bit. I took tough too late. For IOing, you probably don't want to throw this kind of inf at it. I'd go the +HP/rech route on this and rely on siphon life. Look to slot in touch of the nictus triples, and a few other triples maybe this:

Touch of the Nictus: Acc/End/Heal, Acc/End/Rech, Heal
Crushing Impact: Dam/End/Rech, Acc/Dam/Rech, Dam/Rech
