PvP newbie seeks help with a mind/fire dom build.

Ok, I have been playing this wonderful game for about two years now and never have gotten into the whole pvp thing because I do not understand the mechanics very well. But I decided for my main villain toon I wanted the pvp badges. SO I entered RV seeking badges and getting my *** handed to me and left (still getting my *** handed to me) but with the motivation to make a pvp toon. I decided on a mind/fire dom and I am pretty set on that. But to get to the point I am here to ask the experts to help me with this build I threw together. Any advice and/or changes to the build is appreciated. I would rather not go over 6billion on the price but if I have to do that to get a great pvp build then that's what I will do. I will be primarily doing zone pvp in RV but It would be nice to be able to at least hold my own in a 1v1.

Go lev mastery. More surviablity with the res shield. The defense shield is a joke now tbh. proc out all your attacks especially flares.

So other than my patron and the lack of procs there is nothing wrong with the build? As I said I don't really know how to make a "pvp" build so I am a little lost.

How good is personal force field though?

The defense shield looks blah to me, but PFF seems like a decent substitute for Hibernate if you play with a healer and you wind up getting Poisonous Ray as a reward.

Or do people have enough accuracy nowadays to blast through PFF? Wondering, because my dom is getting towards the level where he'll get to pick his patron and I'm a bit torn.

PFF used to be good but it got 'nerfed' about the same time that the domination 'buff' took place.

Also I used this build on my EU's mind/fire.. never copied it on the US unfortuntaly its HP is the only thing that buggs me, arguments can be made with taking TK and the snipe etc.. but I deffinetely don't see an argument for taking blaze.. If you're fitting a 40 range attack that does the same dmg as 2-3 of your other attacks in a 5-6 powers attack chain you're doing something horribly wrong.

So is domination as good in pvp as it is in pve? Someone told me that it was not worth sacrificing the damage/hp for it.

it's there to re fill your endurance bar in PvP tbh.
IIRC your mezzez are unresisted while domination is up. - I may be wrong on that one.

Can you define "nerfed" please? What exactly did they do to it?

Is it worthless and everyone will just zap the crap out of me despite it or does that just mean a spell will land every once in awhile or what?

Ok. I just noticed alot of recharge in your build, didn't know if you were using that to stay in domination most of the time or not. On my build I have a little more damage and more hp. is it worth letting that go for all the procs/recharge bonuses in your build?

Recharge is there to keep a flowing attack chain, you're pretty much fooked if you dont have more then 50% recharge against -rech opponents.

If you're talking about having +3% dmg or even +5%dmg more then no, it's really not worth it... keep the dmg procs - if you can fit in more +HP with only taking out 1 or 2 dmg procs then sure go for it... but again if you're getting only +15hp more, then no.

I have a 44% damage bonus and 142.9% hp on my build. I will see what I can do about adding a few procs and a little more recharge but not lose to much damage/hp.

Ok, I added alot more procs and worked more on my recharge. Hopefully this one is a bit better than the original.

Again, I appreciate the advice, but that wasn't my question. I'd prefer knowing exactly what they did to PFF/how the power works now, even though I'll probably come to the same conclusion as everyone else.

I'd rather understand the mechanics of whatever game I'm currently playing than be told what's best and remain clueless.

How much do you have to spend?

Those ranged pvp dmg procs for instance are very expensive.
Atm the history on the recipes redside is 1Bill to 1.5Bill

Don't worry if you don't have that kind of Infamy you can still make a build that's fun to play and you can alway respec later...

A few things regardless of cost:

Levitate needs to be slotted for Knockback. This power is one of the reasons to pvp with the Mind Control set.

You need the Placate Proc from the Fortuna Hypnosis set in Mesmerize.

More KB protection is recommended.

Consume will not be very useful in pvp. It just does minor dmg and only gives you Endurance.

You should drop an attack and take Maneuvers instead to hold another KB protection proc and Lotg. The free slots can be used to put more KB protection procs in your other powers, i.e. travel powers slotted with Blessing Procs.

You might also consider dropping a 2nd attack and taking acrobatics.

Possible attacks to drop:

The snipe. The dmg looks very nice but you will probably find yourself not using it very often due to the long activation.

Incinerate -- Good dmg but you can do almost the same dmg with some of your ranged attacks without the danger of being next to your target.

Blaze -- Good dmg but short range.

For zone you may also want an aoe mezz like Mass Confusion. It's not totally wasted since it can get you set bonuses. And it can really help when a bunch of heroes are clustered together attacking a teammate. Also is very useful when fighting in a group of enemy NPCs.
