"Text Message Blocking" is usually free.
If you don't want them, and don't want to be charged, turn it off.. if even temporarily during holidays and birthdays, or pay the money to add text messaging temporarily during those times.. at least it'll be cheaper!
Also:
"people I dont know" are sometimes "people who changed their number and didn't tell me", but it's true that sometimes it really is people you don't know just dialing the number of the person who had your number before you did, because they failed to inform people of number changes as well. lol
