The status quo of the game?

Which why I say game companies cant do it because people would complain about balance and the game wouldn't sell or at least last. Still this unfairness just strikes me as life, and while I guess it could be considered sickness in a game <dah easy mode, or dah tank mage> I think it's as much about the people playing though.

I'd say Batman and Supes are the same security level. I don't believe Batman thinks it's fundamentally unfair that Superman can lift a planet and survive nukes? He figures out how to make it work for him. The best possible solution would be a game that was flexible enough to let living god solve a mission one way and the detective another. That would make it clear that good old thunder kick from a normal isn't gonna drop a man made of stone and give other options to the human scrapper, or his team. I'm not sure anyone's willing to be that creative or risky though.

Hence we RP within our groups of friends who will accept our memes, accept the ability juggle titans. In PVP we accept batclone was prepared when he went into battle against superclone and had a piece randommildyradioactive mineral sewn into his undies. None of this makes the game less fun, but another take would be interesting. Shoot those of us who read comics make these allowances a lot, does anyone really believe Wolverine is a credible anti-hulk gun? I mean really?

It also wouldn't be a good game. Fundamentally unfair exchanges aren't fun. Just as waitresses in Hollywood.

Basically, this is a game where I feel you have a small audience - your circle of friends and the people you brush against - and a way you express things yourself. If you think of it in terms of a game that has some absolute leaderboard or standards of Things You've Done, you're going to run out of things to do quickly.

But what this game really does well, in my opinion, is creative expression. Character design, AE, and supergroup structure and creation. There's not a lot of impediment to creativity in this game these days, compared to the basic MMO structure.
The main thing I'm looking for is RP balance between three groups; my VG, our coalition, and the people we randomly encounter.

Call me crazy, but for as difficult as it is to organize, I -like- having a lot of people involved in some RP plot. New people spice things up, and spread word to other people who stop by at other times, that sort of thing.

But if my RP circle wants to set up a RP plot to, say, attack Kings Row" and talk about it publicly, I want a counter to Joe Q. Hero wandering by and saying something like "Pfft. Why should I bother? The Freedom Phalanx will kick your ***." Those kinds of RP solutions annoy the hell out of me. (Why am I so concerned about something like that? I like being prepared. =-p) This thread gave me the answer I was looking for.

I think it would very intresting if level 50 Captain BatClone knew that he couldn't defeat level 50 Capt Shazamerclone straight up. I understand why game companies can't really do this, but still it'd be nice, or at least fun, if the old level 20 overpowered Mage from D&D second edtion (who took like 2 times the exp of a level 20 thief) still existed. Of course, technically I've become a casual gamer in my old age and I'd never actually have the top end character.
I'd give it a try, but that also reminds me of the whining over an alpha class in SWG.

We -do- have that, in the extent that the ATs excel in various ways. Tanks can take more damage, but don't dish it out as well as a Stalker. Blasters deal damage, but are squishy, etc, etc.

The thing with this game is, Yes, YOU'VE beaten Lord Recluse. So have I. SO has that person. and that person. and those people... Pretty much everyone at level 50 has taken on everything there is.

And yet these villains and heroes remain, doing the exact same thing over and over, only to be stopped over and over. The only way to ensure that anyone gets to do any content is to allow this to happen. If the first time a villain was stopped that they would never appear again, there'd be nothing for anyone to do.

There is no canonical explanation for this. I'd like to think that Statesman and Lord Recluse really are unstoppable and unbeatable, but that'd make for a lousy game. Also, there was the time States was blown up and thrown a block outside of a train station by an enemy that was level 15 at best.

I find it best not to think about. If someone goes around toting about how they're the greatest hero or villain ever, I just look at their badge count and set bonuses, and usually laugh and then ask why crime still exists or why they haven't taken over the world, and usually their "reasoning" is idiotic. At that point I stop taking them seriously.

I believe they are far from the same power level. Wich can explain why they don't face the same enemies. (not a huge DC fan, but the same argument exists in Marvel, where i could explain it better. =P) If you check the Mutants and Masterminds( pen and paper RPG) forum, you'll see that most people put batman around power level 11 while superman goes as far as 20.

Personnaly, it always annoyed me when X supergroup pretended to have stopped LR and his evil web plan or how someone can solo the entire FP all at once. I also always found hard to pretend that it's the first time you do the Cap au Diable SF, and don't know what you'll find.....when you've done it 5 times already while RPing.... specialy when it's with the same exact people you did it with.

Nothing can be done about the game being too static, that's why i always tweek the story arcs i've really done ICly. Instead of being the generic 19865th villain to jump on Silver Mantis in a freakshow rave, i'll be the first who attacked her while she was on a mission against the skyraiders. =P
