Bandwidth usage...

I am deployed in Afghanistan and our download/uploads are limited to 15mb per hour. Once I get past the patches and all that is there any way to tell how much data is being sent out and in? Part of me thinks its going to be just a little or a whole lot and probably nothing in the middle.

Any thoughts are appreciated.

I use BitMeter 2, free and available on download.cnet.com here.

It tracks usage long-term and lets you analyze it by hours, days or months. I was on teams for several hours last night, including a Posi TF with 4 on the team. During the time I was playing CoH, the software tracked hourly downloads of 13, 24, 21, 13, 16, 16 MB. That 24 looks out of place. I did take a break at one point and read the forums and that involved watching a few videos so that probably explains that spike (and it probably ran part into the following hour).

Now, during that time, my UPLOADS were consistent at about 3MB per hour so, for total bandwidth usage, add 3 to the previous numbers. That puts my bandwidth usage at about 16-19MB per hour.

However, I have a ton of stuff running in the background. I have my browser open and there are often pages that auto-refresh. I have Yahoo Messenger and Skype loaded at all times.

More importantly (for you), there is an option in CoH to make the game more friendly for people on dial-up and you can 'opt out' of having it send some types of data. I have no idea how much that would affect the bandwidth usage but, if it's aimed for people on dial-up, it *should* be significant.

I would suggest installing BitMeter 2. Then load CoH and engage in your 'typical play' for 30 minutes and see what the traffic was. First, though, find that setting that reduces the bandwidth usage and set it appropriately.
