Wireless Router Help

Need some help, I play (and have always played) COH/COV on my laptop and wirelessly. I know that is not the best way to run but it has worked for me since I started playing back in 2004.

Last night my Router stopped working and I mean dead dead for no apparent reason. So now I have to purchase a new one and I was wondering is there really much of a difference between a regular Router and gaming ones. I don’t want to spend money unneccessarly if I don’t have to. At home it’s just he wifey and I so there is no teenager downloading massive amounts of data, stealing all the bandwidth and causing me to lag like there was when he was home.

Any and all advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

PEACE

Essentially, what the "gaming routers" are doing is prioritizing packet traffic for various games and sometimes opening up ports for better access through the firewall. This can, in some instances, reduce latency, and give better gaming experience.

If it's just you on the network, and you're pretty much just gaming, I wouldn't go and spend ridiculous amounts of extra money on a specialty router. You simply aren't going to see a difference.

Pretty much anything billing itself as specifically for 'gaming' is a scam to get more money out of you.

The exceptions would be various controllers/input devices (mice, keyboards, etc) and video cards.
