Ugh Energy/ Energy blaster
Quote:
You are missing the other side of the coin. Experienced melee players that know they are teamed with KB heavy teammates like energy blasters or Illusion controllers should be fighting and gathering aggro near walls and corners instead of out in the middle of a huge room. Most of the complainers are their own worst enemy not because the player that has KB isn't playing smart but because the melee player isn't playing smart.

Exactly. Sometimes you have to train your melee friends, too. Put that spawn neatly into the corner enough times and even the dullest player figures out that's where the action is.
Tanks LOVE energy blast, believe it or not. Most tanks, at least until fully IO'ed out, do not have the insurmountable defenses most of us would like to think they have. Most tanker combinations still rely on a combination of mitigation sources, often with their own forms of active mitigation. Nothing is better for a tank/scrap, especially a WP/Invuln than a stack of bodies on the ground incapable of attacking.
The smoothest ride I ever had to 20 was on an Energy Blaster. No lie. Tanks and trollers are not quite up to snuff yet, and knockback comes in very handy as mitigation in those levels.
Communication is the problem with knockback, not the effect itself.
I tend to lead large PuG teams pretty much every time I'm playing, and I rarely have any problems with people who do knockback. Occasionally I'll need to politely ask someone to start using it a little more tactically. Even more rarely I'll kick someone off the team over it because they won't listen (like the stormie the other night who liked running into the middle of every group first with hurricane on because 'it breaks up the alpha strike'). But for the most part, it really isn't a big deal. My only hard and fast rule with knockback is that if I'm tanking, and you knock it away from me, it's yours to deal with. Most energy blasters have no problems with that rule whatsoever.
I made my energy/energy with the idea that she'd probably be soloing or duoing with Mr. Tealeaf for most of her career. My team search comment is "No Blinds. I do TONS of knockback." I figure that if I advertise her thusly, then leaders have no business complaining about her KB skills.
Of course, I've found that when I do want to team her and the invites aren't pouring in (and surprisingly, they don't very often), then the best remedy is to just form and lead my own team. Someone complains about my knockback? "Oh, I'm very sorry this isn't working out for you. I will certainly understand if you choose to join a different team that is more to your liking."
Of course if you take this track and on are a team that is working very well that you don't want to lose, then you might want to avoid lending the star to anyone. Not that I am speaking from experience or anything on that matter.
I'm Tealeaf, and I approve of this message.
