Claws/Fiery Aura

Alright, before I get all kinda laughed at let me say this first:

I was never a claws fan. The lethal, the whole look of them just bothered me. They made it so you could have different types of claws and still it was hard! I tried it the other day and made a Claws/DA (like Bill Z) and I liked it! I thought to myself, "How can I make a Claws brute and get a little more dmg out of it?"

So I re-rolled and did Claws/FA for the Fiery Embrace (the Mid's numbers dont look to bad if they are correct) fiery embrace + follow up. I have a PvE build & PvP build, but in general I'd like to know any feedback on this combo. I'm very aware the FA isn't the best of armors for protection but I was curious and interested.

Any feedback I'd love!

The AoE potential of Claws/FA is great. Mine also takes tremendous amounts of joy with another damage buff. Plugging the Immob and knockback holes is annoying, plus without Tough you are a bit squishy. Healing Flames does help survivability, especially early on. Th reason I don't play mine more is that the secondary gets a bit click heavy to me.

I didn't try this particular combo, but i've tried DM/fire scrapper. /fire can easily become a very good set. In fact, i rarely need to use healing flames, but siphon life really helps for that. Claws' KB might be as much mitigation as siphon life, so you might be okay.

I went for the fighting pool and 6 slotted both shields and tough with titanium coating. Add CJ, a few touch of death or other +melee def sets, and you're pretty tough.

It's true that /fire can be very click heavy though. =/

Ok, so here are my two builds for PvP & PvE. My main focus was recharge (for attacks and healing flames), resistance for psi & toxic, and end recovery. Tell me what you think.

But... I'm claws/sr.

What the others said about claws/fa is true. The damage output of doublestacked followup with fiery embrace backing spin, blazing aura and eviscerate will be really obscene.

I'd do it, but having played an em/fa to 50.... I'll never touch FA again.

Be well, people of CoH.

Ugh, EM. You should consider giving DM/FA a try. Skip Fitness and just go to town and grab a bunch of recharge. Honestly, though not as tough as my SS/SD or Elec/WP, it's a ton of fun. I'd recommend anyone try that combo.

I tried getting a Brute to 50 using FA and failed. Claws goodness got me there with a scrapper, bu tI did make the combo mostly due to the fact that I've decided to level up a Claws/Everything scrapper. I'm working on Claws/Elec now and I miss the recharge of Healing Flames and I have Tough already. using set bonuses to push up my melee def so I hope that makes me feel a bit more sturdy than the FA felt.

FA sort of took off for me when I had the knockback protection IOs and could drop Acro, plus Hasten was on a good recharge.

I had very little trouble leveling up my Broadsword/Fire scrapper into the 40s, where he was promtly placed on the back burner when I got bored with blue side for a while. Fire CAN be a little clicky compared to Invul or WP, but after grabbing Healing Flames, Tough, and Consume your downtime will be near nothing.

I agree with Jax on dropping Acro for IO KB protection when you can. I used Combat Jumping as my Immob protection.

Bill, you inspired me to use the Claw/... I did think you had a Claws/DA my bad! I wasn't keen on them until you always supported them in the posts I'd see.

Yeah, I'll drop acro for the KB IO.

Yeah, I tried the SS/FA thing... he is now deleted. Too much Psi dmg in the 40's and I just couldn't take it! Hopefully I can change that this time.

Does anyone know a good way I can just have one build for both PvE & PvP?

Funny... I was just fiddling around with one of these in Mids. By the numbers, it doesn't look incredibly strong, but I bet it would be a blast to play once you got into the mid-30's and had a really good solid attack chain and some IO slotting.

Claws/FA has interested me for a while now, but maybe I'll give DM/Fire a go.

Yeah, it's not exactly uber or anything. IO'd out, I don't think it'd be even close to a match to my SS/SD in terms of most encounters.

My Brute is 28 right now and frankenslotted with some set IOs for now. I can jump into a group, hit Soul Drain and go to town, using Siphon Life as often as it comes up and throwing a Healing Flames when needed. I find the single target and AoE damage are very decent once I get some fury going. Hurdle + Combat Jumping is way too useful for positioning and taking out bigger threats quickly. I'm soloing on +0/x6 and depending on the group, I sometimes end up face planting but generally do pretty well. If I wanted to be cheesey for easy leveling, I'd pick up Temp Protection so I'd be sitting at 90 Fire Res and then just load up AE with Fire baddies and go to town.

Well, I think it holds promise. Wish me luck!
