Claws/Regen ....HP or Rech? S/L Def? Argh!

Looking for help and direction with a Claws/Regen that's been collecting dust for a while now. I did a few runs with the toon last night on BM and forgot how fun the combo was, and how solo-survivable Regen can be.

Any help is appreciated...this is just a first shot at a build. I'd like to keep it under 600 Million if possible (which doesn't help with purples, I know).

I would go for +recharge first...and then go for defense.

Recharge, recharge, recharge, then defense. +HP is largely pointless because, with perma DP and the passive accolades, you're already within shin-kicking distance of the +hp cap. The tangential +hp bonuses from sets such as Mako's Bite and Touch of Death will be all you need to be sitting there at the cap. +Regen is also similarly less than useful because the increments are so tiny compared to what you're already packing. An extra .5 hp/sec sounds great whenever you're running around at 5 hp/sec base, but when your passive hp/sec is more than 50 hp/sec, and you can crank that up to ~200 hp/sec with your clickies (converting Recon and DP heals into hp/sec), .5 hp/sec is less than a drop in the bucket.

For your defense bonuses, go positional, with priority to melee over ranged and AoE. The bonuses are more common and benefits more broad. Touch of Death 6 piece in your ST attacks, Obliteration 6 piece in your PbAoEs, and BotZ 3 pieces in your transport powers.

+recharge is the way I would go.

Then think about adding damage procs to the key attacks. With Claws fast animations and recharge they can really beef up the DPS.

Good points by all....I'm having a hard time getting the rech up without purples though.

@Umbral - It will probably be a while before I get the accolades on this character (busy with my BS/SD & Spines/Fire) so I may just opt for the HP bonuses instead.

I swapped some things around (and essentially evened out my recharge since dropping the Fire ancillary made me lose some easy Rech) but I was able to go with PP instead of Fitness and picked up Energy Torrent for some mitigation when my click heals aren't back up yet. I would have preferred to keep Fireball for farming, but oh well. Do you all think the Melee Def increase will be enough to offset the lack of Rech?

Feel free to edit/tweak/respost/eat a poptart/whatever....

When you edit/preview a Mids' build, make sure you re-paste it. The build you posted doesn't have an operable link.

As to the accolades, it's not that hard to get the accolades, at least in my opinion. The only ones that take a decent bit of time are TFC and Portal Jockey, but if you run the TFs to level 10-40 and Tina/Maria arcs 41-50, you'll get them easy (since those are actually some of the best sources of non-farm xp you can get). Atlas Medallion generally falls into my lap in the mid 30s (all you need to work on is the 2 Council defeat badges, the others just take a quick 10-15 min badge tour). Freedom Phalanx Reserve member is slightly harder than the Atlas Medallion, but if you spend 45 mins hunting down Fake Nems in Peregrine with a team, you should be able to get it at roughly the same time as Atlas Medallion. I've gotten all 4 of the passive accolades on all of my 50s.

A few questions:

You took Revive, but not Instant Healing? Hell, you took Revive before MoG? You didn't put any +dam or +rech into FU? Also, you do know that the +heal set bonuses do pretty much nothing for */regen, right (Recon is unaffected by buffs and debuffs and the +heal doesn't enhance regen in the least; the only thing being enhanced is the heal portion of Dull Pain)?

Other that the stuff I mentioned (and I mention it with a look of horror on my face), the build looks pretty decent. It's got decent +rech, decent +def, perma-DP (just barely).

I didn't have the slots to do IH (with the other powers I wanted) and it's recharge is so long....so it was skipped for the emergency faceplant button. I couldn't slot tactics or FA, so I wanted to make certain that FU hit with the two common acc IO's, and I wanted maximum to-hit/damage buff increase it provides for the rest of my attacks for it's 10 second buff period...hence that being slotted that way. (It recharges every 5.5 seconds with Hasten...didn't see the need for rech either). I play all lvl 50 stuff, so I'm not worried about exemping.

The insightful tidbit I did take away from that post was the wasted Numina's Heal (for the 4th set bonus of Enhance Heal) so I dropped it out for a common healing IO in both FH & Integration.

I feel more like I'm defending my choices, than collaboratively improving at this point though........sorry for the "look of horror"....

Thanks for the tips Umbral. I've seen your Claws/Regen build and I'd love to roll that one day....just not anywhere close to that level of influence currently.

Well, the +tohit buff enhancement is pretty much a waste imo, since you should already be planning on (nearly) double stacking it with the FU>Focus>Slash>Strike attack chain. For FU, BU, DA, Parry, Siphon Life, and all of the other attacks that have external benefits, my universal recommendation is to first slot them as attacks. They're attacks first and foremost. Make sure you give them a decent bit of +acc so that they can hit (which you did), plenty of +dam so that they won't kill your DPS (which you didn't), enough recharge to get them up as often as you need them to be (in the case of FU and BF, this is roughly translated to "as much as possible", which you didn't), and only as much of whatever you use to enhance their tangential benefit as you can fit in without impinging on the other 3 traits.

What you may want to consider doing is taking some of your newly freed slots and giving FU either a Crushing Impact 5 piece or Mako's Bite 6 piece (I wouldn't do Touch of Death because it doesn't pack enough +rech). You're going to want to get the recharge down under 4.224 seconds in order to run the FU>Focus>Slash>Strike attack string (FU>Focus>Slash>Swipe would be better, but the recharge requirements increase to 3.96 seconds).

I feel more like I'm defending my choices, than collaboratively improving at this point though........sorry for the "look of horror"....
I generally try to make everyone defend their choices, but that's because I love a good debate and I think that everyone should be able to answer the question, "Why?". It's perfectly fine if you don't give a damn about what I'm saying, but I'm only saying it will generate better numbers. Some people wouldn't want to run a build designed by me even if it runs twice the DPS and three times the survivability capability because it's designed by me or simply because they don't find it to be fun, and I have no problem with that. If they want to persist in the misguided notion that their suboptimal build is just as effective as one that I've designed that actually has the numbers and results to support my conclusions, I do have a problem with that, especially if they're going to start trying to give advice based off of that build (which most idiot-optimizers have a tendency to do).

This is a build I whipped up just now. It could obviously be stronger but I tried to make it under 600mil like you asked.

Not entirely sure why you took CP and PP in your build. As a claw/regen you shouldn't need those for endurance. In my build I went fire mastery so i could 4-slot char with basilisk's gaze to get another 7.5% rech. Also, taking fire blast allowed me to 5 slot decimation for a 6.25% recharge bonus. Then 5 slot fire ball with positron's blast (like you did with energy torrent). Taking fire mastery will get you a fair amount more recharge and damage. If you are set on taking body mastery, scrap a slot from somewhere and put a force feedback proc into the sixth slot in energy torrent. Preferably do the same with shockwave. I believe umbral covered everything else.

Would you mind posting your most up-to-date build?

The build at the top was my initial one using the fire epic, and the second build posted was without Fitness and with PP in it's place (which I didn't realize was a viable option until Umbral pointed it out in a different thread).

I believe you accidentally posted my same build over again, but I'm looking forward to taking a gander at what you've put together.

Umbral - Understood and appreciated.

Ah yes I had two mids windows open (one with my build, one with yours) and clicked the wrong one.

I like your first build better but I can see a few points that could be improved. Take a look at my build and see how you like the changes.

Alright....this is revision #3, trying to keep the Melee defense up but keep improving recharge time. Looks a lot like your build, except I chose Reslience for the SF:3% and Shockwave for the mitigation and Chance for Rech. I don't *think* endu usage will be a problem, even with just QR.

Appreciate your time and input as always!

Looks pretty good. I would suggest slotting FU with ToD acc/dam, mako's bite acc/dam/end/rech, and crushing impact acc/dam/rech. In the fourth slot I would slot the gaussian's synchronized fire-control chance for buildup. Those changes should help your DPS. However, there will be a 13 second downtime when hasten is not up and you will not be able to run the FU/focus/slash/strike atack chain. You could always mix in spin/eviscerate into that while hasten is down.
