It looks like you have a reasonably priced build that isn't bad. Definately something to build on with more expensive enhances with better bonuses later on.

I made some quick changes, changing Fire Cages to Enfeebled Operation. That gets you to the S/L defense cap without needing the expensive Kinetic Combat set in Boxing. And I reassigned the slots in Boxing (I don't like slotting up powers I never use for set bonuses)

The reason you would slot boxing is simple... for 3 slots you get 3.75% defense to smashing/lethal attacks. That adds up to alot for very little investment. I looked at it the same way as you till someone showed me the TRUE value of set bonuses.

There's really no way to do that. The prices on the auction house vary widely with time. Some recipes are generally more in demand and thus more expensive, but even those prices change a lot.
