The 'Euro Guy at Hero-Con' Thread
Thanks for all the info Birdie, it's the best write up I've seen to date.
So, sometimes you have to love this country, though not when trying to get into it. Here I am in San Jose airport, sitting at a little workstation with free power and Wi-Fi for my laptop. Since I have about two hours before my plane boards, this is a good thing. Bet you I won't get the same in Chicago where I have a four hour lay-over.
Anyway, it's been a good trip. In case she does read this, I'd particularly like to thank Avatea for making me feel welcome, but also all the other guys on the dev team and such who put up with the weird Brit chatterring at them for any length of time. However, Avatea definately wins the prize 'cos I got a hug from her at the end of the con.
Now, the question is going to be: will I still think it was all worth it when I crawl through my front door about 8am tomorrow? Time will tell.
Bruce Harlick's Red Name on the forums is Horatio. Bruce was the first employee of Hero Games the folks who created the Champions Pen and Paper Role Playing Game. It's the source material that Cryptic bought for their Champions Online MMORPG. Brute Harlick wrote (or had a hand in creating) most of it. Bruce joined Paragon Studions last summer. I'm very excited to see him her. He's a talented writer, and I look forward to his work on City of Heroes.

But, yes, Bruce's red name is Horatio, and I hadn't heard of that either, but he was still a rather cool, informative, and nice guy who did try desperately to suggest that maybe Emperor Cole wasn't such a great guy, but there's something in the water... electrolytes apparently.
Thanks for the links.

Ah... English soil...
There is apparently a video of the Keynote from Saturday on YouTube at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qbikq...eature=channel
I haven't looked. I don't know how good it is, but it'll probably give you some idea of the 'Wow!!!' we got sitting in the audience.

Thanks for the info Ravenswing - good write-up and I'm glad you had a safe trip home.
They are looking at tech to implement dual chest emblems, and also to have more than two colours in the costumes. No news on when, however.

Speaking of 'things that bug us,' I did have a chat about the feelings of people regarding the merger of the forums. The community people area aware that there is something of a feeling of being stuffed in a corner and ignored, and they are trying to do something about it, but I can understand the point that it isn't easy. We would complain we were ignored when the boards were seperate, and now we complain when we're all together. Frankly, I think we were better off being ignored and seperate (and therefore the moderation wa smore culturally appropriate), but that's my opinion and it's my choice to post less.

I just can't keep up with discussions here like I could on the EU forums, due to the volume of replies and new threads, so it just feels more impersonal to me (I feel more distanced from the community, but ironically closer to the Devs). That's even though I continue to only read the same sub-forums I did before (mainly General chat, Comic & Hero/Villain Culture & Archetypes/Powers - plus Dev/Community Digests of course). There's no way I can spare the time to keep up with most of what's being posted on those sub-forums, whereas I could on the old EU forums.
I try to be more selective and skim-read a lot more, but Comic & Hero/Villain Culture in particular grows so fast here that I could waste hours daily just trying to read everything that might interest me in that single sub-forum (plus I have to be so much more careful not to run into spoilers for US movies or TV series we haven't seen yet on this side of the Atlantic).
I've noticed that the time I spend on the forums when I do visit has gone up, but the frequency of my visits are decreasing because I just know that when I visit I'll end up spending more time on the forums than I want to. Tbh I probably need to give up posting, go back to lurking, read Dev Digest daily again, and just resist skimming any other sub-forums until weekends when I have more time to burn.
This is something I hadn't heard anywhere else and which makes me very happy - thanks for relaying this info. I really hope the Devs manage to add this at some point.

Not that I'll take my own advice and read the other reports. Not soon anyway. I'm still shell-shocked.

I recommend reading as many reports as possible. I took a lot of notes, but I may not have written down everything, and I could not attend all the panels, nor did I spend a huge amount of time talking to developers. Like, I didn't hear the thing about Hamidon mentioned by Fuzun, and apparently others didn't record the comment about adding extra colours.

For shame!
<hangs head and begs forgiveness>
Not to be nosy or anything, but I was killing time reading forums threads while copying photos from my camera to PC. I got a couple of Photo Albums on Google for the keynote and for the Praetorian Character's Design panel. And to add and correct a couple of things in Ravenswing's posts.

And Hamidon Paslima and his creations (The Devoured Earth) do show up on Praetorian Earth. They should up much earlier then they did on Primal Earth. The only effect weapons on Praetorian Earth were Powers (super powered being) and nuclear weapons. The world governments were very careless (I assume with they nukes) and make a mess of the environment. The apperance of the Devoured Earth ravaging the earth prompted the people of Praetorian Earth to as Marcus Cole to save them. Praetoria is a safehaven for humanity from the of the plant. And that means we'll probably be fighting Devoured Earth from a very low level on Praetoria.
