Click Mez prot and high recharge
My DM/SD scrap only ever uses it when an AV has a high amount of Mez attacks, other wise i dont nomally use it. The End cost isa big factor also.
Ive never used it for pylons because they actually have to get through your def to knock you back, which is a rare occurence.
The amount of DPS lost is minimal, idk the exact numbers 'cos tryin to calculate that would give me head ache but its not like they're goin to regen all of their health back while you get back up.
Out of the AV's ive solo'd, from memory i only used it on Positron and Black Swan. Posi because of his Def Debuff and Black Swan because of that PBAoE stun. Both AV's were tough...extremely tough but i got 'em down, after about 4 million deaths though.
The main reason i dont use it is becuase of the end cost, not the DPS loss, s'the same for SD.
I suppose in particular I had just finished watching the "sergei vs Battle Maiden" video, in which it seems like it was being fired off every 4 attacks, and usually it's not the regulars on the forums that need to hear it, but I figure a PSA to those watchers wouldn't hurt.
Especially when many who are relatively new to IO's pick up a build off of here and don't consider changing playstyle at all since it's relatively undiscussed.

Practiced Brawler used perfectly is 1.72 seconds out of every 120, which is to say about a 1.4% DPS loss. A few people might try to double stack it, which would be a 2.8% DPS loss. Figure the average person is somewhere between those two numbers. Let's call it 2%, which I consider to be pretty small.
I don't have Practiced Brawler on auto, and I have it slotted for endurance reduction instead of recharge. I tend to click it when convenient, such as during the couple seconds that Soul Drain is down. The Battle Maiden video was in I12, prior to the Dark Melee buffs, so prior to me picking up Soul Drain. So I probably didn't have any specific moments I was waiting for, and might well have been clicking much earlier than I needed to. However, even if I had it on auto, it would only fire every 75 seconds, which would be a 2.3% DPS loss total, or a 0.7% DPS loss compared to optimal. With that sort of minimal difference, I err on the side of caution, and don't wait for it to start blinking.

Ah, It's gotta be in my head then... now that I think about it you tend to speed up your videos about a quarter of the way though to spare the viewer, it's likely I was envisioning it happen something like 3-4 times more than it was in reality.

Not getting held is worth losing a few points of damage.

<was speaking of enemies especially who are not capable of holding, and then of enemies that are capable of holding, but not holding with high enough mag to require stacked PB/AD.... It's simply that, turns out, the loss is for the most part insignificant so it doesn't matter much>

I've got hasten on auto and click PB only when I see it blinking the toggle drop warning.
When I dump hasten, (because I've given up on reaching the 313% recharge needed in FU for FU, Slash, Focus, repeat,) I MIGHT put PB back on auto depending on its final recharge time.
Be well, people of CoH.

There's also a big difference between Practiced Brawler and Active Defense.
A good chunk of Sheild's DDR is in AD it makes sense to double stack it.

So, a question out to all those AV soloers after watching some youtube vids...
How much DPS is being lost to SR's or shields Click Mez protection powers?
I notice many are used to using these on auto all the time, just like many bubblers don't pay attention to times they do not need the nrg/exotics bubbles.
In high recharge builds it seems crucial to both pay attention to the mez effects an AV is capable of landing on you, and when there is a problem, to make sure to actually manually fire it, because otherwise it's incredibly hightened recharge rate has it firing every couple of attacks, using a long animation for overkill or underused effect.
I generally bind the key to something on my mouse, along with build up to make it easy to hit whenever I want, leaving hasten to fill the auto slot.
So um, likely already known advice, but, keep your heads up scrappers that're IOing up, recharge can be bad in some cases.
