Why can't I reply to PMs?

The forum very rarely lets me respond to PMs properly. Most of the time when I click the Reply button I just get a blank new PM page. Sometimes, if I'm lucky, it'll properly set up a reply with the subject line, recipient, and PM I'm replying to in the proper field and correctly mark the PM as replied to, but usually I have to fake it by manually entering all that text. And today it said a PM I was trying to respond to was invalid. What's the deal, forums?

Issue 16 made me feel like this.

Same thing that happens to me, but I have a small workaround that doesn't require "manually entering all that text".
When you are viewing a PM, the url has a message number:
pmid=1234567 (for example)

When you hit reply, it sometimes shows up blank, (or changes the number to something invalid):
pmid=

When that happens, simply hit BACK and get the number, then hit FORWARD and enter that number into the end of the reply url, and the message will be filled in for you.

I got that one last week. Closed the browser, reopened, problem gone.

Same problem here. It started sometime last week when a whole slew of old PM's got added to my box. Now to reply, I just start a new message.

I thought my issues were browser related. So I went back to IE8 from Firefox. It helped some. But I found that the problems kept coming back on and off. CTRL-F5 often cleared things up, but not always.At home, using the same browser/OS, I rarely have any issues. This had lead me to believe that part of the issue is firewall related. Or that my work firewall is exacerbating existing forum issues.In the end... it's a hassle, but now I open new messages in a second tab and copy/paste/quote in a new message back to the person I'm trying to converse with. Unless reply actually works.


This post is another example of how frelled this forum software is. I was unable to utilize the quick reply button in the bottom right. It was nonfunctional. The text in the quick reply box greyed out instead of the normal black. CTRL-F5 did nothing to fix it. So I used New Reply but after submitting the post, I see that all the formating I had in place was trashed.

It'll be nice when/if these nuissance issues get resolved.

As I mentioned above, all you have to do is copy/paste the message ID# into the reply URL and it'll fill it in for you. It's a lot easier than trying to do the whole message manually each time.

I quit doing that when I'd get a reply back, attempt to reply again, and get an error stating that it was an invalid URL contact administrator.

Wow. That's really crazy messed up. They work fine for me in IE7 and Firefox 2.5. (One of these days I need to upgrade both, but it's going to break other stuff I haven't dealt with yet, and I'm lazy.)
