This is one of the messages I recieve upon login. I tried to login a toon in SC, when that failed, tried St.Martial- the above is from the SM attempt.

Ran the updater three times, and it hasn't detected any problem.

Should I just try to reinstall? Never had this problem before.

Have you tried clicking the Verify Files button?

We'd also need more information about your installation and computer to be able to offer any accurate advice.

If the game spit out 20 dollar bills people would complain that they weren't sequentially numbered. If they were sequentially numbered people would complain that they weren't random enough.

Here's what I'm running:
MB ASUS M3A78-EM AM2+ 780G/SB700
CPU AMD|PH II X2 550 AM3 3.1G
VC Asus EAH4770 Formula 512mb GDDR5
OCZ Blade Series Gold 4GB
Office XP

I ran the verify all app, still crashed, this time 3/4 way through loading screen:

./piggs/texWorldCZ.pigg: Corrupt pig file detected Read failed for file: texture_library/WORLD/city_zones/venice/Canal_roof_04.texture -1Your data might be corrupt, please run the patcher and try again

trying to log in a toon in Cap this time.

First, post a log from running CoH Helper as it will give information about your system and the CoH installation and settings.

Second, post a log from running HijackThis. This will show what else is going on on your computer while you are playing CoH.

Tried CoH helper, it kept timing out.

Posted

With all of that ... stuff ... running, I'm not surprised it timed out.

Try shutting down most of those programs that are running, including the unnecessary stuff in your system tray. Keep IE closed, since you are using IE6 and have 3 toolbars loading as well as other items that will eat system resources.

Also, which video card are you running? I see the ATI Catalyst Control Center loading as well as the nVidia Control Panel. Find out which video card you actually have, and uninstall the software from the other card. My preferred method of getting rid of the unneeded stuff is to uninstall it from the Add/Remove Programs listing in Control Panel, download and install DriverSweeper, reboot into Safe Mode, run DriverSweeper and remove ONLY the items related to the video card you don't have installed, then boot into normal mode.

Once you get the computer cleaned up a bit, try running CoH Helper again.

Also, I see that a wireless driver is loading. Are you connecting wirelessly to a router? If so, connect via ethernet cable and try running the patcher again and verify the files. If you aren't using wireless, this is another area of programs to shut down.

If the game spit out 20 dollar bills people would complain that they weren't sequentially numbered. If they were sequentially numbered people would complain that they weren't random enough.

Which ones qualify as unnecessary? I know it needs to be cleaned up, but have no idea which ones need to go.
I'll get rid of the nvidia, since I'm running the ATI.
It is a wireless router, but it'll take soem doing getting to an ethernet cable, will have to do that tomorrow.

Thank you for your help!

Let's see, where to start.

Click Start. Click Run. Type msconfig and click OK. Click on the Startup tab. Uncheck the following:

PhotoshopElementsFileAgent.exe
AppleMobileDeviceService.exe
mDNSResponder.exe
jqs.exe
LSSrvc.exe
QuickCam10.exe
HPwuSchd2.exe
OrderReminder.exe
apdproxy.exe
DISCover.exe
iTunesHelper.exe
jusched.exe
msmsgs.exe
Skype.exe
DiscStreamHub.exe
iPodService.exe
Core.exe
Hotsync.exe
COCIManager.exe
EasyShare.exe
WZQKPICK.EXE
jucheck.exe
GoogleToolbarNotifier.exe
msntask.exe

This should free up the resources enough to allow you to run CoH Helper without it timing out.

Go to your CoH directory and delete checksum.coh. Go to the piggs subdirectory and delete sound3.pigg.

Reboot your computer.

Run the updater again.

Here's the CoH helper dump.

I'll try deleting those files now.

Ok. I see a few problems that we can head off now so that when you've gotten the updater working you can have a more enjoyable gaming experience.

I'd recommend adjusting your CCC and ingame graphics settings to those in the first post of Bill Z Bubba's stickied ATI Issues and Settings Recommendations thread that is stickied in this forum. Bill explains the WHY of the settings as well.

As a quick rundown of the ingame settings that should be changed :

Disable Vertical Sync
Lower you Maximum Particles to 25050
Turn off Anisotropic Filtering
Turn Water Effects to Off or Low
Disable Bloom
Disable Depth of Field

Those settings are known to cause problems, which Bill's post covers better.

If you want to set your graphics settings before you get into the game, download and install TweakCoH then use it to set the graphics settings before you launch the updater.

If the game spit out 20 dollar bills people would complain that they weren't sequentially numbered. If they were sequentially numbered people would complain that they weren't random enough.

Black Pebble is my new hero.

Thanks you guys,

Got the game up and running again, and made the changes you recommended. Hopefully that will prevent it from happening again.

Muchas Gracias
