Updater is stuck at file manifest!
I know how you feel, i myself am having a problem like this... i load up and it just hangs on "checking updater" and nothing happens... i even left it for ~1 hour
i would REALLY love some tech support considering i may quit the game.... "Why pay for something your not even gonna use?"*
Putting my problems aside.... it seems astho ur problem is kinda worse... ur tries to download but get stuck
Edit: *Just saw the tech support has an e-mail... >_>
Mine sometimes gets stuck at 'Checking Updater' as well.
Im only on the Free-Trial though, so no wasting money for me! D:
If this keeps up and no one gives any info on why this is happening or helping me. I won't be able to buy this game....
Ugh, This looks like such an awesome game! x___x

Update Vista.
Update your graphics card driver.
Get rid of your malware:
O2 - BHO: BitComet ClickCapture - {39F7E362-828A-4B5A-BCAF-5B79BFDFEA60} - C:\Program Files\BitComet\tools\BitCometBHO_1.3.7.16.dllGet rid of all those background programs. Besides all those P2P programs opening you up to viruses and trojans, they should never be running while running CoH.
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [GroupManager] C:\Program Files\AVG Internet Security\groupmanager.exe

hey Zombie man.... what would you consider THIS program?
O23 - Service: Andrea RT Filters Service (AERTFilters) - Unknown owner - C:\Windows\system32\AERTSr64.exe (file missing)
which is from my own one... my friend is saying that this is Malware, some sites i googled says its malware.... some say its to filter out noises on Mics
Edit: you should go onto the Oceanic lounge then Archcat... its got a few NZers hanging there

Even if it is legit, if you didn't install it, then it is, at least, intrusiveware and thus should be deleted, which you did. You can use HijackThis to remove the registry entry altogether.
If it was a trojan or malware, keep an eye out for other unexplained files to pop into the registry.

Alright, I'm getting the help I need from Technical Support people and right now, the game is actually loading! :O
I was like, lemme check if it works today....and BOOM! there it goes.
Thnx Zombie Man for all the help
Dunno what help it'll be to others playing outta NZ, but after some nice back and forth with Support, this has worked quite well for me....
If you're using a shortcut to the updater.exe file, try making the target line look like this...:
"C:\Program Files\NCSoft\City of Heroes\CohUpdater.exe" -port 13094
This of course, depends on where your updater.exe file actually IS, but making the extension on the end look just like this has worked wonders for me!
Well, it did something called "Checksumming" and then it went back to being stuck at file manifest...
and then BOOM! It started loading!
OMFG ITS WORKING!
THANK YOU!!!!
<3
It's terribly slow though...but ah well, its working!
Although...this has happened before and has stopped like halfway...i'll tell you if it doesn't work but thanks anyways if it doesnt!!
I'm talking with support too anyways.

Let's hope it works for you, too!
Alright, so I downloaded the game yesterday night and it started loading fine on the Updater but then it just stopped and went back to 'Downloading file Manifest' I didn't actually see the change though, because i left it on for a while and when i got back it was at the file manifest part.
I've restarted the Updater multiple times and my computer too. I have the Updater running and right now it's stuck at 'Downloading File Manifest'
