I'm a huge fan of slotting for defense, but you sacrifice too much in some of the powers to get those sweet, sweet high def bonuses. The worst problem for a kin/ is you really need all positional defenses, since you (or at least I) zip in and out of melee range all the time.
Arguments
Neutrino Bolt is usually better slotted with damage procs than damage itself, as it'll do more damage over time. An Achilles -res proc can be helpful here. But do you want to give up 2.5 or even 3.75 ranged?
Irradiate should be slotted for damage and end redux before defdebuff, since it's defdebuff is already huge. This is not worth the 1.88 aoe def. (Hmmm. I did not find the slots for this. They're somewhere!)
Siphon Speed is slotted wrong. Put in at least 2 recharge and probably an accuracy (though Tactics and +acc are in very reasonable amounts).
You can use the three slots stolen from Siphon Speed to add Breath of the Zephyr to Fly and Hover for an additional +6.16 ranged.
I would also reduce the slotting in Maneuvers, capping def and +50% or so end redux, and adding another LotG +recharge to make up for the lost bonus.
Then you could steal a couple slots to make the snipe useful (i.e., do max damage) and slot Thunderstrike there to reclaim your missing ranged def from Red Fortune.
For $Deity's sake man, you don't have the Steadfast res/def?! Either of your armors will do... There's +3% to all so you're softcapping ranged, and even if you lose the 1.56 AoE set bonus, you still come out ahead.
Questions
Is Conserve Power really needed on a kin/? Can Hasten replace it or would that be out of concept?
And -kb! Make one of the BotZs a -kb so that the invulnerable man (RP) and the kinetic (minmax) doesn't get knocked around...

Reptylebrain, thanks very much for taking a look at my build, I apreciate the feedback.
As far as positional defense, here was my plan. Since i have a good resistance against smashing and lethal, and when you get protection against a positional, you usually get resistance against the corresponding set of 2 types, (range: energy/negative, aoe: fire/cold, melee: smashing/lethal) i was going to try to cover range, aoe, energy/negative and fire/cold. This would leave me open only to melee psi, and melee tox attacks, both of which are very rare. Thats the plan, i dont know if it works or not.
I don't think i'll be needing any knockback protection though. Hover makes knockback pretty lame, however I do need the defense from BotZ.

Hey there. I was actually one of the guys on the virtue help channel when you asked about defense building. I took the build you made and left all the powers in except for x-ray beam which I replaced with speed boost. The reason I did this is because it freed up five slots to use in other powers and because (I think but I'm not sure) x-ray beam was only in there for set bonuses and you didn't intend to use it. If you -really- don't want to have speed boost in the build, some other options for powers that don't need any slots to be useful are increase density, inertial reduction, vengeance, stealth, hasten, combat jumping, and recall friend.
Here are some stats for this build: 24.3 melee defense, 42.5 ranged defense, 43.1 area defense, 22.5 psionic defense; 46.3% global recharge; 110 bonus hit points.

Anyone know why my mids is wigging out on resistance calculation? it says all my resists are way over cap when they're not.
Hey what code did you use to get that to work right anyway?
You might have it in pvp mode. That would give you gigantic resistances.
And in order to get the code to go in right you need to use the Titan SMF code type thing. The official forums setting that Mids has right now is meant to be used on the old forums.
I'm running an RP character called Captain-Megaton on virtue. The powersets and pools are more or less set in stone. Slots, enhancements and to some extent, individual powers, are flexable. He's supposed to be more or less invulnerable but i elected to slot defense rather than resistance out of convenience. He has a decent ammount of smashing/lethal resistance, defends well against ranged attacks, as well as energy/negative, and to a lesser extent AOE attacks, and fire/cold. Even though i'll be trying to group with this toon, I'd like you to think of it as a solo build when you give feedback on it. This is my first attempt at actually making use of Mids' hero designer. Thanks for checking it out.
