Pain Corr, Assault and WOP

Hey,

Been gone from the game for a bit, and recently reactivated on time card, to check out i16. love power customization, not perfect but pigs are flying I heard. So with switching sides in the works? (another major want)....I am looking a new corr. Overall i like the new direction of the game (except the ae farms) but...


I have been toying with the concept of a Pain/Rad corr. I plan on IO’ing it some but not insanely. I sure aint gonna waste the real life time on tweaking a toon with an uber IO build (like i did my fire/psi and afew others). I plan on tweaking to getting reasonable, I think perma WOP is not hard, and AC recharge can be brought down considerably.

As I tinker in mids, i have some nonspecific questions evolving, and musing. Some are nonspecific and others are very pointed. I have just started playing with this concept in mids, SO, like it took me a few weeks to tweak my fire/psi in mids, and I am still researching this build and sets, looking at recharge times etc.


WOP is a PBAOE, and it has a nonenhanceable 15% dam buff to teammates, does that stack with Assault? So would you get a SUSTAINED 30% PBAO damage buff with both running? (Throw in a SOA ? wow) how would that apply to the damage caps for individual team mates.

I am also looking at AC and Irradiate. Both have significant PBAOE foe negative DEF and Resistance when added together. Irradiate is -30% DEF, and AC is also -30% def. AC also has a -res (non enhanceable?) -22% res to foes. Would the achille's heal proc add a 20% on top of AC? Am I seeing this correctly? If I throw in some Achille's heals chance for -res in the rad powers like irradiate, with enhanced -def of AC and Irradiate, you shred defenses of foes by 60% and then pop some Achilles heals in there to shred foe resistance 20 to 40% on some foes to boot? and stacked damage buff from assault and WOP?

Tactics is to hit as well, that should stack with the WOP to hit buff? and again PBAOE to hit for the enitre team? PBAOE for all of it? Are they kidding?

The other thing, what is the difference in the defense debuff sets? The defense debuff sets should increase my ability to affect foe defenses. There are two sets showing up in mids. One is accurace defense debuff and the other is just defense debuff? I can tweak the rad powers with full acc/dam/rech/end etc and add defense debuff in there with good choice of slot placement. What is the difference in the two sets?

This guy or gal is looking like a monster on a team and for av fights. And just flat out, not near the PIA factor that empathy is.

Anyone got any tweaked builds or advice?

I have been running around with a Rad/Pain for the last couple of weeks, and it is a great combo.

I call it an assault corrupter, because it gets in close, uses its buffs, debuffs, PBAoE attacks and the vet reward Sands of Mu.

Yes, Assault with stack with WoP. The Achilles Heel proc is rather expensive, but yes it is very good idea to get at least one on your toon.

Remember, +DMG powers boost, from Aim to WoP, boost the base damage of an attack. -RES powers, however, give a boost to ALL the damage the attack does.

I.E. Your attack does 100 normally, and with Assault and WoP, for example, you would get 100+15+16=131

BUT, you also had hit your target earlier and the Achilles Heel proc activated. Now you do 131*1.2=157 Not bad. Add Aim, +DMG Global IO Bonuses, and Anguished Cry, and you can see how a Rad/Pain can really make both sides of that coin jump!

Now, onto the Rad/Pain build. Currently my Rad Pain is 32, and following this plan. It has one expensive item (the Numina's), but I plan to get that with Merits. Other then that it is going to be quite reasonable to afford. I got lucky early on and picked up the Touch of the Lady Grey damage proc from the BM for a very reasonable price, and have had that slotted for about 10 lvls. WoP is 6 slotted as you see on the plan, with most of the other powers still using SOs.

To the OP: What do you want to do with your Rad/Pain?

When start making a new design, I try and figure out what I’m trying to accomplish with it and how it will play. Is there synergy or antagonism between the power sets, and with power specific powers? Is the combo better suited to close in or ranged attacks? What mitigation does it have? What powers are often skipped/never skipped and why?

With Chemical Burns, my Rad/Pain, my initial reason for rolling her up was because I wanted to check out Pain Domination. But what should I pair with it? Pain, of course, has "healz", but it also has Soothing Aura, World of Pain and Anguished Cry. These powers would imply that a Pain Corruptor would be best played closer to the action.

I picked Radiation Blast to go with it because it has two large PBAoE attacks (and I had not made a Rad Blast toon since I4, a short lived Rad/Rad DEF). And, if I’m going to be firing off Irradiate with it’s -30 DEF debuff, I might as well make good use of Sands of Mu while I’m at it.

As far as IO bonuses, I try and make what it does best even better. In this case I shoot for more damage, more regeneration, more healing and more recharge. Finally, because squishies who get in close are susceptible to lethal doses of mezzing, I picked up as much protection as I could from Assault, Tactics, Combat Jumping and Acrobatics.

So far things have worked out pretty good. Soloing is satisfactory, and teams rock.

But whatever you decide to do with your build, get Cosmic Burst. It is too important for you to skip.

Warning: Raging Wall of Text

Im at work at the moment so I can't view any of these builds, but I have made a rad/pain corr recently and I am immensley enjoying it, all the more as this is the first Corr that ive played thats gone beyond the dizzy heights of lvl12 .

I was originally planning on posting something pretty much identical to what the OP has. However my prediciment differs somewhat as my rad/pain wasn't really created with any contrivance on my part to make a corr with great synergy (or whatever) or even to make a corr at all. The AT and sets were dictated to me by the concept. My idea was to have a villain that could secrete weaponised blood through the pores of her skin and then use that to attack/protect, buff/debuff etc and i have to say that rad/pain suits perfectly ('specially now as i got funky dark/red coloured rad blast).

Being a corr virgin i've been lurking in the corruptor section of forums for a few days sponging all the info i can on these sets and the AT in general. Ive done a kind of preliminary build on mids so im a bit more aware of the limitations now (unfortunately i can't post the build right now, but will later once im home). But I foresee a couple of dilemma's involving build dynamics and the old struggle familiar with all concept builds: concept Vs playability. So, without any more ramblings, allow me to lay it down for you.

Utilising WoP:

Looking at WoP gives some fairly clear indications on what direction to take with the build. The +ToHit component cries out for leadership i.e Tactics and probably Assault (as the OP has already stated), but the +Dmg Res makes me wonder just how resistant my Pain corr can be. Running a test on mids slotting 3 x lvl50 Dmg Res IO's into WoP, Tough and one of the patron shields (I tried Charged Armour and Dark Embrace as Mu and Soul Mastery seem the most likely candidates) I got some fairly impressive numbers to S&L with some moderate figures to energy (Charged Armour) and/or Negative and Toxic (Dark Embrace)- I cant remember the exact numbers Im afraid.
Im leaning more towards Soul Mastery for concept reasons as the dark effects seem to fit in more (fingerz crossed for Power Custo' on Patrons in future) + Power Boost sounds like it could be fun in conjunction with Rad Blast. Here's my dilemma: If i take Tough, Tactics, Assault, and a Patron shield I feel that my end won't cope (I'm lvl32 at the moment and my end is manageable, but not great {i have Stam btw}) and my hand will be forced to Charged Armour for Power Sink which i'd prefer to avoid as the 'leccy animations dont look very bloody. So, if I really want Soul Mastery it would seem ill have to lay off some of the toggles so i don't run out of end before you can say splat. So i guess im looking at a leadership Vs Power Boost situation. Any suggestions?

Resistance or Defence (or a bit of both:

Now, it seems that soft capping corruptors for Ranged Def is a pretty popular choice at the moment. Personally, Im not a fan of incorporating entirely new traits into characters especially when there is already plenty to work with already present. Which is why initially ive attempted to go for resistance over defence. Im not even sure how high its possible to get ranged def on a Rad/Pain or how useful it would be considering i spend most of my time pretty close to the action. But, im wondering, Am I missing a trick here? Is slotting for dmg res on corr a mistake? Looking at my power choices and assuming I go down the Leadership
road It seems this build is almost inviting me to put defense in there i.e resistance sets in WoP, Tough + Patron Shield, Gaussian's in Tactics, and BoTZ in Hover and Fly, aswell as defense that can be gleamed from the ranged dmg sets themselves. I imagine that even if i could soft cap to ranged I would have to sacrifice for it, which im loathe to do really as there are other areas im priotising over res/def like rechg, recovery and status prtection. But, maybe a nice balance of defence and res could be the way forward? Again I'm appealing to anyone with experience of these things to give me a clue.
