Hello all! I just recently installed this game, but it won't get past the loading screen with the City Of Heroes art/logos and stuff. Also, when I run the game, I always have to verify the files which gets kind of annoying. >_<

Hope you guys can help.

Have you tried the solutions listed in the Common Solutions post at the top of the forums? The most common cause is a Window skinning program (Windowblinds for example). The other cause I've read about was a graphics tablet and its software.

From Common Solutions: Game Doesn't Start:

I don't have the WindowsBlind. And I don't have any notifications of being stuck behind a firewall when the game runs. =/ It just stays stuck at "loading". I can't even get to the login.

I'm guessing the problem is your GPU: NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200. It's a generation older and a few levels of sophistication lower than what is regarded as minimum specs for a high-end 3-D game like City of Heroes.

You can try this:

1. Upgrade your graphics card driver. It *is* old.

2. Go to your manufacturer's website and see if there is a newer driver for your motherboard chipset/CPU.

3. Your huge hard drive is now more than 80% full. Windows goes crazy with that unless it's kept in order. Try this:

1. Go to control panel and then Add/Remove Programs and get rid of any programs you don't need any more.

2. Go into Windows Explorer (not the Internet Explorer) and right click on your C: drive and chose Properties. Under the General Tab, you'll see a button for Disk Cleanup, run it and get rid of deleted (recycle bin) and temp files.

3. Under the General Tab, make sure Indexing is not selected. Unless you need to do quick searches of your documents on a regular basis, you don't need this. It may take a while to propagate the un-indexing to all the sub-folders.

4. Go to the Tools Tab and click on the defrag button. Run the defragger. It may take an hour or two to defrag. Make sure the computer doesn't power down during it (you'll find power options where you change the screen saver -- right click on desktop...).

I did everything you said, but no go. Could it really be my graphics card? I went to Can You Run It? And said it was okay for the minimum settings. I run WoW perfectly (On low settings of course), but I don't know if I can really compare WoW with CoH because CoH seems to be more detailed. Lol.

Multiple attempts and failures at logins. Login server is down. Cannot connect to DB server.

I'd like to see what a new CoH Helper says now that you've upgraded the drivers. Also, please post a HijackThis...

• CoH Helper - it will show us basic computer settings and your CoH configuration.
  
• HijackThis - it will show us what's running on your computer concurrently with CoH. Click on "Do a system Scan and save a logfile." It will automatically open up Notepad and put the info there. Make sure Wordwrap is off in Notepad (Format > Wordwrap unchecked) before you cut and paste here.
