Well, each letter needs to be a a different banner.
Like S goes on Medium Arcane Banner 1, U on Medium Arcane Banner 2, etc.
What gets displayed on any given symbol item is determined by the symbol on the last placed copy of that item. So if I use the Diamond symbol on Small Tech Banner 1, it changes ALL the existing Small Tech Banner 1s in my base.

umm, exactly how does one "lay the S down?" or "use the Diamond symbol on Small Tech Banner 1"
I cannot figure out how to get the letter on the banner in the first place. All the banners have my SG symbol on them by default, I've tried selecting the banners but I'm not seeing any way to customize them. I'd expect a text input? or a menu somewhere? Is it a key combo? Help?

You will need to go into your SG settings and change the symbol each time.
Go to the "super" tab in the top of your chat window, and your roster will come up.
There is a "settings" tab... The first "page" will look like a document with all the basic settings on a "form". Click in each area to edit the pertinent information. The symbol can be found at the bottom left of the page, alongside your color choices.
Remember, when you set a banner with a symbol, it applies to all banners of that "type"... so to get different letters or symbols, you need a different banner type for each one.

Is there a banner spelling checker in the game?

I am fairly new to base editing. Since I have began creating a base I have taken every opportunity to look at other peoples bases, and on several occasions seen people spell words with banners.
Implementing this in my own base, however, has been impossible! Is there a bug now that won't allow you to do this? For instance, if I want to spell, let's say "super". I lay the S down, switch to U, lay the U down. So far so good. As soon as I try to lay the P down, all the letters change to P.
Anyone else experienced this? Is it a bug or am I just not doing it right?
