Disco Inferno - fire/fire

My first lvl 50 toon was an NRG/NRG blaster that I had an absolute... blast with. It was a blapper which I thoroughly enjoyed because I love getting into the thick of things. Since I liked melee so much I thought I'd build a scrapper (kat/regen) which is stuck at lvl 46 because frankly it's boring... WAY too easy. Even on +5 it isn't a challenge, I never worry about falling.

So I'm back to a blaster for the sheer exhilaration and edge of your seat - am I going to faceplant!? The blapper was fun for ST but sorely lacked in AoE's.

We all liked to burn stuff as kids... we all still like to burn stuff! Enter Mini Match!

I've made it to lvl 26 and I can count on one hand the faceplants. I LOVE this toon! I need some help with the rest of the build. I'm unfamiliar with the fire powers and I've built it according to the descriptions and what's worked for me so far.

CAVEAT EMPTOR!

1. I've been lvl pacted and missioning with a kin/sonic... ahhhh SB and in teams. It's enabled me to put off stamina and I'm wondering if I can get away with no stamina!

2. I love TF's and teams.

It's not very polished, I did it today at work

I'm liking both flares and fireblast at this point partly because I can fire off both when mezzed but thinking I will respec out flares once I pick up burn.

Is celerity +stealth and SS enough to sneak around? What happens when I inevitably hit a wall near a mob?

Fireball - so much fun.

Firebreath - This power looks like it has great potential but I'm not liking it. It takes too long to animate and the damage takes too long to accumulate. I'm getting smashed while waiting for it and find I'm doing more damage with my other attacks. I've read that increasing the range can help quite a bit as the cone gets larger.

Blaze - great attack but range is terrible. Works very well in chain and for targeting LT's and higher before hitting FSC.

FSC - funnest attack I've used yet.

My strategy so far has been to fireblast, blaze to build up defiance then loose a fireball and run into melee to finish with FSC. With build up ready I skip the fireblast. Seems to be working fairly well. In large teams I'm more patient and incorporate whatever obstacles I can.

I'm looking at taking quite a few fire secondaries. I've noticed with a few mobs after I FSC they have slivers of health left. I'm hoping that blazing aura, burn and hot feet will take care of that. Do I need all three though? Burn breaks mezzes which is just awesome as that was a very weak point with my blapper. Hot feet provides some mitigation - I read in one post it causes fear? Could drop one to pick up stamina but I'm hoping the +end procs, consume and +recovery from sets will be enough... thoughts?

Took elec epic for the S/L and energy resist. The EM pulse has nice synergy with consume I figured. Could eliminate the epic entirely and pick up stamina, aim and fire sword.

Please let me know what you think and any tweaks you'd have.

You seem spot on with your observations. In a build where you plan to leverage Hot Feet, Blazing Aura, and FSC, I would recommend dropping Fire Breath. You normally want to be in melee and starting from range or bouncing back out to range in order to leverage the cone is counter-productive to that end.

Stamina. Unless you plan on staying with that Kin all the time, I cannot imagine going without it. High recharge will get Consume back faster, but it also means you can (and probably will) use FSC and Fireball more often. Hot Feet and Blazing Aura use an obscene amount of endurance. Tacking Tough, Charge Armor, and Weave on top, and then using FSC and Fireball will make the blue bar go down very, very fast.

I am not sure the PS +End proc will work in Shocking Bolt (but I am pretty sure it will work in Consume), I think it grants the +End to the enemy instead.

Aim. You should not skip this. Fire Sword. I recommend it highly, I would not think of skipping it on a build with both Hot Feet and BA; if you are going to be in melee, you should not skip one of the best attacks.

Specifically for your build I would - Drop 3 of the following 5: Breath, Inferno, EM Pulse, Blast or Flares. Pick up Stamina, Aim, and Fire Sword.

Here is my melee centric Fire/Fire build for further ideas.

Why Blasters? Empathy Sucks.
So, you want to be Mental?
What the hell? Let's buff defenders.
Tactics are for those who do not have a big enough hammer. Wisdom is knowing how big your hammer is.

do NOT skip Inferno if you play with a kin !

kin is fire blasters best friend with SB and Transfusion (the one that gives you your end back, not sure of the name right now ^^)

IMO skip breath and EM pulse

And you'll definitly need aim and fire Sword

Transference

Wicked power!!

Looking again I do see fire sword does pretty decent damage and has a quick activation. Can you confirm that burn will break a mezz? I read in a post that it does not do that!?

Endurance was my worry running all those /fire toggles PLUS tough/weave!

That's two votes for dropping firebreath! Done. I'll respec it out and that gives me room for stamina which means I can change my sets around as well.

Thanks for the input.

Burn only grants protection from Immobs. Kins have Increased Density, which protects you from Immob, Hold, Stun, and Knockback (but it only lasts a minute per application, so its a bit tricky to keep up on bigger teams, although in a duo its pretty easy).

Both Blazing Aura and Hot Feet shut off when mezzed, so its best to have preemptive mez protection, although I quite merrily just plunge forward on teams where I do not have that and turn the toggles back on as I can.

I haven't tried +stealth and SS, but +stealth and Steamy Mist or Shadow Fall make you completely invisible to most mobs even when you stand right next to them (Rikti Drones can still detect you, or anything with +Per). From what I can see with Mids, it should give you that same basic invisibility.

I like to slot powers like Ring of Fire for damage because you can still use it when mezzed. Having three powers instead of just two when mezzed can be a lifesaver. There are a lot of sets with nice bonuses that can be slotted there too. You can also slot some nice procs in it (Gravitational Anchor's chance for hold is nice and Entropic Chaos's chance for heal can be handy).

I think you'll need stamina with so many toggles.

I wouldn't skip Fire Breath if at all possible. It actually has the same animation time as FSC, and does slightly more damage. As a cone rather than a 10ft PBAoE, it is also much easier to catch big groups of enemies in it, and having a ranged AoE is good for situations where you do not want to enter melee, or for softening up a big group before going in. YMMV, but Fire Breath is half of what makes Fire/ a good AoE primary, although it can be tricky to leverage together with all your melee attacks.
