SS/SR Brute VS, Stone/Ela Brute

Hello!!

I know per the new issue we are getting the Energize change for Electric Armor, but honestly I dunno if I'm gonna keep my Stone/Ela brute. I guess it just came to a point where all the things I wanted to fight in or rather should get to be helpful (tough, weave, etc.) just didn't work into the build.

I am contemplating crapping him for my new SS/SR brute. I so far got a build worked with really good regen, recovery, all defense at 40% + and stealth capped (I want to play him kinda like a stalker).

I would like some feedback if any. Thank you!

Sounds painful. If you insist on doing this, eat lots of fiber, drink plenty of liquids.

Is this for PvP? I don't see any point in a stealth capped brute. For PvE if you want to be able to stealth a mission, just have super speed and drop a Celerity +Stealth into sprint. That way you have invis on demand. But as SR you will almost never need it. You'll be able to zoom through a mission and just watch all the mobs miss you as you cruise by.

I think as SR it's far more important to go from your stated 40% to 45% defense. Those last few points eliminate a lot of incoming damage and make a gigantic difference in your survivability.

Scrapping him! LOL sorry! Ya, I know there is really no point in a stealth capped brute, I just didn't want people to see my coming. I usually try to make builds I can play for both as I am not a hardcore PvP'r anymore. 40- 45% huh? Hmmm, I'll have to see what I can do on that front. Thanks!

Is there some way I can softcap without getting weave?

Do you mean just without weave, or without the fighting pool altogether?

This build is soft capped (With stealth on... You get a couple percent defense bonus from stealth even when you're not in hidden status) without Weave... But it uses tough. I'd be quite hard pressed to manage soft capping without having a power to slot some resistance set IOs in. On the other hand, if you're using Combat Jumping or Hover, that might get you there, but it would probably leave AoE defense slightly below the cap.

This might not be obvious to the OP, so I thought I'd mention that the most important positional to softcap is melee, followed by range. AoE's are less common so it's common to see builds that don't bother softcapping AoE. My own preference is to softcap it too, but realize it's not as important as melee and ranged.

Indeed. Which is why I was saying you could get away with ditching Tough in the build I submitted, if you took CJ or Hover to make up for the loss of the Steadfast Protection +3% defense global. You'd be something like 3 or 4% short of the cap on AoE I think... But that's not the end of the world.

Personally I like having all my bases covered though

Thanks Paladin! That gave me an alternative!

No problem. I actually enjoy a challenge like "Can you soft cap an <insert powerset/AT here> without using <????>". I'm immediately forced to load Mid's and try it whenever someone asks something like that
