Does anyone know why the Don't Auto Spawn setting would be grayed out, and un-settable?

I'm trying to make it so that a couple certain custom characters don't auto spawn in my mishes, but the "don't auto spawn" button is grayed out, not letting me set it. Does anyone know what's wrong with it?
