Help me enjoy low-level Corruptors

"I had friends who would grenade the entire mob right as I hit Dark Regen. Grenade isn't a bad power, per say, but it makes me cringe everytime.

And, with the whole mind dom thing, the synergy is a bit odd."

It's only bad if the grenade is used early-mid fight. The OP felt Buckshot wasn't enough so I brought up the grenade. Yeah, it would be better to wait for Flamethrower, and Full Auto. What I was thinking is if the Mind was using other controls it wouldn't be as big an issue, but you're right, I should have dumbed it down. Silly me for thinking outside of the box.

Oriand, all AoE's hog end, gain aggro, and break sleep. If you don't want to work around the KB of M30 that's fine. Then I would suggest skipping Ignite too. To be quite honest for what you are trying to do I would suggest not playing Assault Rifle at all. Sonic has a nice selection of single target attacks, and blooms early. You can fire single target shots without any annoying side effects that you might have to work around. Then you can have all groups with Mass Hynposis and pick them apart 1 by 1. You won't have redraw issues either! Sonic is just one choice that comes to mind. Ice isn't bad either. It also has some holds which will add more control which could be handy. Try out some other Corruptor's and see if you like those better. I don't think the AT is bad, but there are some combos that aren't for everyone. If you aren't liking it now drop the character while it is still low level, and find something else early. There is no point in running a character to the 30+ game and hating every minute of it.

Good luck!

Go with the Ice/Rad. Focus on the single-target blasts and Freeze Ray early on. Delay the AoE. Slot RI with tohit debuff, NOT endurance reduction. Use it right after Mass Hypno and go to work with single target stuff, helping out on the controlling with Freeze Ray. I think you'll find that fits better. If you can get your gf to Confuse LTs and Levitate bosses (or Mesmerize them if you want to kill them after the minions) then you'll be golden.

If you want to stick with AR, go with a /Dark. I think it's even safer than /Rad in the long run and between the two of you (three if you count Fluffy), there will be some sick controlling going on. Not that /Rad isn't a great idea too. I think perma-AM isn't too hard to reach if you have Hasten and some IOs. While that's no speed-boost or fulcrum shift (nothing else is) it's still going to help a bit with damage, end recovery, and recharge for both of you.

some probably won't agree, others might, but I think the problem is the combining of ar/kin
I've rolled it twice and deleted after 10 levels twice. Yet, I've played ice/kin up to 24 and had a blast, and I have an ar/traps corr that is lvl 42 now. Imho, AR is awesome, Kinetics is fun, but the two paired is hurtin.

Try fb/dm if you wanna have some maniacal fun cause tar patch--->rain of fire--->fireball is a beast combo.

Just to cut directly to the chase, the easiest way I've found to gain an appreciation for being a low-level corrupter is to try and get an invitation to a team as a low level character that isn't a corrupter.

Alternatively, you could consider the optimal number of each AT on a team. You don't need a stalker or a mastermind. A single brute is enough to absorb alphas. A single dominator can keep a pack under control. Any number of corruptors continue to provide additional buffs and additional damage, up to and including an all-corrupter team.

I'd say that the problem is that you're trying to play with a Mind/Psi that's being played badly. Between Confuse and Dominate, she should be able to take two targets out of the fight with hard controls. Mesmerize can instantly remove the threat from any boss that's not on fire. A little planning and learning how to use the skills in her primary should let the two of you handle Villainous difficulty pretty easily.

If you're planning to duo exclusively, you may wish to think about taking a set that's more single-target focused - AR has 2 single target attacks, 5 AOEs, a snipe and a control power. Something like Ice or Sonic could be a lot more helpful on a very small team.

To quote the sage, Adam Savage: "Well THERE'S your problem!"

Your experiences have been with some of the hardest combinations of powersets and has completely jaded your view on corruptors as an AT. Corrs aren't the best at everything, but they're certainly one of the best balanced classes on villside. Roll a Fire/Dark corruptor and see how that performs at level 6 compared to the hero side blaster of the same level. They're light years apart.
