Spines/Regen Build Assistance AV Soloer
not to rain on yer parade or any'thin, but that is probablly the worst power set combo for AV solo'in, though in its defense it's one of thee best PvP power set combos,...
Spines has the worst ST DPS, and Regen has the most difficult time soft-cap'ing def, both of which are fairly essencial for the AV solo'ist ... this to me seems like an exercise in futility, but if it can be done, i'd like to see it, and this is the place to find out

Secondly, softcapping is in no way requires or even essential for soloing AVs, especially for */regen with its absurd damage recovery capabilities. I've never played a natively softcapped */regen (not that I would want to) and I've solo'd numerous AVs.
As to Spines/Regen, yeah, it's gonna be a tough one, simply because Spines has the least ST damage and the worst ST damage endurance efficiency. Luckily, since you're */regen, you don't really have to worry about the endurance efficiency problem.
As to whether it's possible, it should be simply because the requirements, once you've addressed survivability, are rather low. It only requires ~100 DPS (slightly less actually) in order to make gains against an AV's regeneration. After that, it's simply a question of how long you spend working on it.
If you really want to make a Spines/Regen AV soloer, your best bet is to do as I tell every */regen scrapper: +rech, +rech, +rech, and +def (in that order).
5 piece Doctored Wounds in IH, Recon, and DP. 6 piece Obliteration in your PbAoEs (Scirocco's in Quills because it costs a ton and needs the end redux). 6 piece Touch of Death (and 6 piece Mako's once you get 5 of the 3.75% +def set bonuses) in your ST attacks. 6 piece Gaussian's in FA.
The big thing to realize is that, because of the sets you're using, it won't be cheap (you're probably looking at 1 bill or more in pure inf) because you've got to work pretty hard to get your survivability up high enough to last for the long haul. Either look forward to lots of farming or lots of TFs.
oh yeah, i realize that soft-cap'ing isn't essencial per-say, that's why i used the qualifier "fairly" ... but also, as to /FA, FA also has alot of Res going for it, and as such is alot easyer with set bonus's of Res set's offering alot better options in the def area that Regen doesn't have nearly as much access to ... odds are unless you sacrifice way too much to get the def your not going to hit soft cap, but reguardless, you still want some measure of Def in your build, or the AV attacks will just simplly spike damage way too high for your regen rate too help at all
Your not raining on my parade. I was just bored with him and figured i needed a goal to keep me interested in playing and that was to kill an AV. I guess ill use this guy to farm AEs and play around with in the PvP Zone. Maybe if i get a lucky drop ill drop the cash on IOing him out to do this but i doubt it.
I did notice that i was having a real hard time getting my defense any where near where I thought it should be and you guys just confirmed my suspicion that it was near impossible. I did make a few feeble attempts at an AV and pretty much got 1 shotted or the damage output was greater than my regen.
I guess its on to the DM/WP to solo AVs with then and leave the spines for PvP.
Thanks yall
Heh. If I were you, I'd probably turn my Spines/Regen into an AV soloer just to show that it can be done. Not that we're saying it can't, just that it would take a lot of investment. But your Dark Melee/Willpower will probably have a MUCH easier time of it.

I am trying to tweak out my current Spines/Regen Scrapper build to solo AVs and stink at number crunching. I have about 200MIL in cash and don't mind farming a bit if that cash isn't enough. I have tried one or two AVs and it didn't go very well and before I waste all my cash on useless enhancements i figured id give you kind folks here a crack at it.
